Think about it 'The moment you realize your CA practice has the power to change the lives of so many interns and employees who join you, you will never be able to take it casually and accept anything that comes in for just money.' I got this sudden thought out of nowhere two weeks back and then it stayed with me. Our every working day is building someone's resume and writing our future. Days, weeks, months, and years go by getting engulfed in all the regular compliances, but it is important to stop by and reflect on what value we are adding to our team. I am a proud Chartered Accountant and have recently seen lots of newly qualified CAs struggling for decent job opportunities. Here is some tips for aspiring CAs: Do make sure to use 3 years of articleship period as foundation stone of your career. Don’t do articleship on paper or for just formalities. Learn deeply in the field of your choice. Go to Big4 if you like consulting, large corporate jobs; work at a specialised Tax firm if tax is of interest. Do articles with a CA firm if you like to start your own practice but make sure you do rigorous 7-8 hours weekday work and be hungry to learn everyday. Use weekends for classes and covering your subjects for upcoming examination. Do not keep it pending for last 3-4 months. Those should be mostly used for revision and clearing doubts in specific areas of curriculum. Having a strong practical work experience during CA articleship can shape your career very positively and set you apart during job hunt. Also try to pursue industrial training during last one year. Articled students are obliged to engage with certified Accountancy Firms during this period.✅ Every CA student must undergo Two year of articleship in a chartered accountancy firm. Students face the challenge of choosing the right firm. The firm they choose should fit the purpose of articleship.💯 It is challenging for a CA student to look for the right firm. I believe a person who has completed CA Intermediate has a very good understanding, and in fact, a better understanding of finance, taxation, and audit than any BCom or MCom graduate. Yet, while doing articleship, most aspirants receive a stipend between 4000-7000 rupees (I am fortunate in this case as I am doing my articleship with a Big 4 firm). Many enlightened individuals justify this by saying, "Oh, this is a stipend, not your salary." However, my brother, who is in his first year of BTech, earns more in three months of internship than I do in an entire year of articleship. How does one justify this? If we are not employees of the firm, why are we expected to work like them? Why can't firms restrict CA articles to a maximum of 35 hours per week? This injustice has plagued CA aspirants for decades, yet no one seems to address it. It's disheartening to hear my friends working 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, for a compensation of 4500 rupees (yes, termed as stipend). Isn't our time valuable? Is this our worth? I earnestly request ICAI to take action and alleviate our plight.
