Regional Program Manager at National Inventors Hall of Fame. Dedicated to enriching students STEM experiences through innovation and hands on fun! Veteran educator of twenty years in elementary education.
https://lnkd.in/g77WQ9iA Combining learning with hand, eye coordination AND candy: WIN! WIN! 🎃 🍁 🎃 🍁 🎃 🍁 This time of year, it's even MORE challenging for educators to keep kids engaged. Having students engage in hands-on learning can often hold their interests and get them more engaged in their learning. This activity could be used in so many ways and across subject areas: Phonics: 📓 1. Have students choose the number of vowels versus consonants in a word and put candy in 2 different cups. 2. Have students put the number of candies in the cup for the number of syllables in the word Math: 🧮 Primary kids could add a given number of candies to their cup by hand. Then take out x amount with their grabbers and pour the remaining out to see the answer. Then have them write out the problem on dry erase to see it. General: 🍬 1. Have students put 1 candy in for TRUE or 2 candies in for FALSE to review any concepts being learned. 2. Have students put as many candies in their cup that they can for a given amount of time. Then give them time to collaborate with others and provide a supply of materials to improve their grabbers---then have them try again and work to beat their personal best!

Education System Alert: A Call for Change As a dedicated math teacher, it's deeply disappointing to see students struggling with basic concepts. Education should be more than just memorizing facts and passing exams—it's about truly understanding the material and applying it in real-life scenarios. Seeing college students unable to solve fundamental math problems is a wake-up call for us all. We need to shift our focus from rote learning to conceptual understanding. What changes do you think are necessary in our education system to address this issue? Who do you believe is responsible for this gap? Let's spark a conversation and work together to improve our education system! #EducationReform #TeachingMath #ConceptualLearning #EducationMatters #MathEducation #StudentSuccess #EducationalExcellence #FutureOfEducation

Math interventions for Elementary students must be grounded in conceptual understanding of math strategies. Math anxiety can be avoided if students are provided more than rote memorization experiences for gaining math fluency. To address all types of learners we emphasized the importance of always integrating concrete, representational and abstract elements in all lessons. We grouped students by targeting the strategies they needed using interview based math running records. The monitoring of the students involved looking at their stages of learning. -Are they ACCURATELY using a strategy? -Are they FLEXIBLY using multiple strategies? -Are they EFFICIENTLY selecting strategies? -Are they gaining AUTOMATICITY? -Are they APPLYING what they know to grade level standards?

Walk into most elementary math classrooms, and what do you see? Containers filled with colorful manipulatives like attribute pieces, coins, clocks, fraction bars, and geometric shapes. Wonderful tools that help students to make the leap from concrete play and exploration to abstract mathematical concepts. Walk into most secondary math classrooms…where are those same wonderful tools to allow students to explore the concrete in order to understand the abstract? Secondary students need the hands-on experience just as much as elementary students do. Check out this week's blog at www.gordonglobalmath.com to explore ideas for bringing manipulatives into your secondary math classroom.

Almost agreed to this coz it's TRUE for the most of the students studying in traditional academic bachelor's course‼️ But whether this situation is entirely true for engineering students in our country and others who appear in the competitive entrance examinations to pursue their careers in the sphere of research other than technical courses, cannot be said without the proper survey on this. #mathbasics #mathematics #professionaldegreecourse #strugglewithbasics #backlogs #educationsystem #change #mathcareer #entranceexams
