🚛✨ The Freightliner Powerliner: King of the Road ✨🚛 In the early 1970s, Freightliner introduced the Powerliner, a truck designed to meet the anticipated demand for high-power, heavy-duty vehicles. This beast came standard with a 400 hp Detroit Diesel V12 (12V71), with optional engines like the CAT 3408 V8, and a top power option of 600 hp Cummins KTA-600, the largest displacement diesel engine ever offered in regular production highway trucks. 🔥 The Powerliner boasted: Massive 2000 square inch radiator Fuel consumption of 3 – 4.5 mpg Deafening noise levels Despite its impressive specs, the timing couldn't have been worse. The 1973-1974 energy crisis and the 55 mph speed limit severely impacted sales, leading to its discontinuation after a few years. During its reign, the Powerliner was truly the King of the Road, especially cherished by owner-operators in the sixties and seventies. With its mammoth engine dog house and roaring power, it was the equivalent of a Hemi Charger for the trucking world. 💬 Share your thoughts and memories of the Powerliner below!
