“In other words, the people charged with helping brands earn trust and preference with broad audiences across multiple market segments don’t reflect the general public they’re trying to reach… Teams that reflect different experiences, different communities, different cultures and different stories are better equipped to influence different audiences.” #DEI #Impact #MulticulturalMarketing #ExploreFCG
"Inclusion, diversity and equity is good for business. Research shows diversity brings more ideas, more impactful innovation, better prospective talent and a deeper understanding of customers." Medtronic's Torod B. Neptune explains why the PR industry should recommit to building a profession that properly reflects the multicultural audiences it is trying to reach.
Can we take back the inclusion, diversity and equity story?

Thanks to the Greater Omaha Chamber and CODE conference volunteer committee for again selecting Claudia to present at the chamber's GREAT Conference on Opportunity, Diversity and Equity. Special thanks to chamber staff members, Janique Hayes, MPA and Dell Nared Jr. for all of their hard work moving this work forward for the entire Greater Omaha community. Far too often, “diversity” is used as a synonym or placeholder for the word “race.” In fact, diversity includes any characteristic that makes a person unique. Diversity includes all of us - EVERYONE. Diversity is contextual. And, at its core, it’s about representation. In some colleges and universities, rural white students may be underrepresented. In some settings, older people, with so much to offer, aren’t as involved as they should be. Often, these demographics, very unfortunately, don’t see themselves as part of diversity. But they are. If you want to go beyond some of the misinformed and divisive headlines and learn about diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion from those who actually do the work for organizations and communities, consider attending this great conference. You won't regret it. Claudia's session title: "Reflect to Connect: How to Practice Mindful Inclusivity and Expand Your Horizons". Session description: During this interactive session, attendees will use introspection to explore how to, as an individual, practice mindful inclusivity toward others. This session is well suited for those seeking to support and uplift others through their behaviors – in the workplace and beyond. In this session, attendees will connect in small groups to identify behaviors that support inclusivity and build a sense of belonging at the workplace. They will share personal stories of feeling seen, interconnected, and supported to elicit behaviors that create a sense of belonging. Pulling from a list of micro-affirmations, attendees will practice affirming behaviors during workplace role play scenarios. DE&I Champions Need Your Help! Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practitioners and marginalised groups work tirelessly to create a more just and equitable world. It’s a passion, but also a responsibility, and they can’t do it alone. That’s where you can come in—as an ally. 1. Be an active listener: Pay attention to the experiences and perspectives of marginalised groups. Seek to understand, not just to respond. Recognise that you don’t have all the answers. 2. Educate yourself: Actively learn about systemic biases, discrimination, and the historical context of current issues. Attend DE&I events, workshops, and training sessions. Ask questions. 3. Amplify marginalised voices: Share their stories, articles, and perspectives with your networks. 4. Challenge bias: Speak up when you witness discrimination or microaggressions. Jokes at the expense of others, are not jokes. 5. Advocate for change: Support policies and initiatives that promote DE&I in your workplace, community, and beyond. Take a lead. Above all remember that allyship is a journey, not a destination. Be patient, make mistakes, seek clarification and keep learning. Change takes time and effort, but your voice and actions can make a real difference. I’ve seen it, I’ve felt it myself. Your voice can be powerful. Be an ally. #DEIAlly #InclusionMatters #StandUpSpeakOut #dei #BeTheChange #MoreThanJustAHashtag #ActionOverWords

Experienced researcher, contractor and consultant specialising in violence prevention, intersectional disability rights and neuro-inclusion.
On the last day of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, the corporate advertising is telling me to celebrate my neurodivergence. This is something I do every day, in my work, in my personal life and in my advocacy. I am neurodivergent. My family is neurodivergent. My friends are neurodivergent. I love being neurodivergent. My neurodivergence drives my interests and it drives my work. My ability to hyperfocus on areas of interest is what allows me to run my own business. My attention to detail and natural tendency to critical analyse everything I come across allows me to pull apart policy documents in an instant; and my lack of value for social norms and power status enriches my advocacy. However, there are some parts of my neurodivergence which are not enriching. Largely because society does not understand or accommodate for my differences, I am disabled in many areas on a day to day basis. For example: Because supermarkets are filled with brights and lots of noise, I cannot do my a weekly supermarket shop in person. Because desks in office environments are typically in shared spaces, surrounded by other people, noises and stimuli, I need to work from home for employment to be sustainable. Because social events often require me to interact in a group setting, eat foods I am unfamiliar with and mask my traits that are not socially acceptable; I usually cannot participate in a social event without experiencing post event shut-down and exhaustion. *These are just some examples of the day to day difficulties I experience. They are by no means an exhaustive list. Until society can accomodate me in a way that does not require me to compromise myself, I cannot genuinely celebrate all aspects of my neurodivergence. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #Neurodiversity [Image: Teal background with a photo of lots of people in a crowd in the bottom right hand corner overlaid with a transparent teal colour.
