Steve Katz is widely known as the first CISO after being appointed by CitiCorp in 1995. He believed the role of CISO was all about mitigating business risk, translating complex technical information into a clear business strategy for the leadership, and ensuring the robust protection of the organization.  He has also been quoted as saying, “CISO could be a pure businessman so long as he understands technology and surrounds himself with security technologists.” What do you think about this assessment? Stability and change, I believe, can co-exist in information security but most often they do not. Perhaps there is such a momentum out there that drives change that it is hard to engage with that process to keep it pointed in the direction we wish. Mandy Andress and I talked about anti-fragility and I am looking forward to the book arriving any day now as I want to explore the intersect between this and resilience (nod to my friend and colleague Tammy Klotz here). I very much value speaking with my peers in this series and will over the coming months with our team, be announcing a whole variety of other exciting channels and programs that we will be launch. All of them will have the goal of driving knowledge, understanding, collaboration and sharing in our world of cyber.
