We are beyond proud to announce that we are working on a project in Bangladesh to help suppliers decarbonise with BESTSELLER, Gap Inc. and MANGO. Producing materials and manufacturing products generates most of our emissions. However, we don’t own our suppliers and we share them with other brands. Therefore the best way to reduce emissions in our supply chain is to work with other apparel companies. This is where the Future Supplier Initiative steps in. They offer brands a platform to collaborate on financing decarbonisation in the supply chain. “I’m very happy to see Bestseller, Mango and Gap Inc. joining the Future Supplier Initiative, powered by The Fashion Pact, Apparel Impact Institute, Guidehouse and DBS Bank. The initiative offers a mechanism for collective financing, enabling both brands and suppliers to get closer to Science Based Targets, with a focus on using less energy and cleaner energy. We encourage others to join us to continue to drive change in our industry”, comments Adam Karlsson, CFO, H&M Group. More brands are welcome to join FSI and the idea is to open projects in other apparel manufacturing countries such as Vietnam, India, China, Italy and Turkey. It is great collaborative initiative from H&M Group !! I am glad to share that ASIAN FABRICX PRIVATE LIMITED is also a Home Textile supplier for H&M Home based in India. We have decarbonised our supply chain by moving to Bio-mass fuel from coal. We have phased out the coal completely from our supply chain.

This is supporting loans for suppliers right H&M Group? I do think the marketing around this initiative is misleading and somewhat vague. Helping suppliers get loans is a world of difference away from directly funding renewable energy in supply chains. There is surely a strong argument that suppliers should not be left to foot this entire financial burden themselves; and that if they are, progress on this issue will be far slower than it otherwise might be.

We are ERESI Solar ApS, a Danish company operating in Bangladesh, providing mostly OPEX models for the textile industry as well as other industries in Bangladesh. Our model is based on the factories making no investment and only some limited security package - and we are paid for the kWh hours at a fixed tariff for the PPA period and that way re-paid our investment. It is a very attractive model for many textile companies as they are getting a cheaper rate on their electricity compared to the grid price - they only pay for the consumed energy and they don't have to take huge loans or make investments. We have already build solar installations and are currently working on another 10MW projects in the textile, beverage and consumer good industry. Is there any way that we could collaborate and join efforts. We clearly see your intentions and I think it is very important that big companies like H&M, Mango and Bestseller are in the forefront pushing the industry towards a greener future. The Textile sector in Bangladesh is ready and are looking for the right solutions. If you see any possible connection and a way to join forces, please contact me at kenneth@eresisolar.com

Yes great start! Would be even better if you are also concentrating on reducing your quantity of clothes.. from produktion & in stores.. better made & of better quality so they don’t end in landfills.

This collaboration is great for the textile industry. I think this movement will positively improve the ecological impact of production on the earth and encourage producers. However, there is a fact that while this action will help to reduce the impact of production on climate change, brands need to be more supportive of the producer in terms of the price of the goods. I hope they will be more consistent 😊

What about taking the waste out of your supply chain? The 'we don't own the factories' argument I have heard 10.000 times while offering optimization services to this industry. How can the automotive industry be less polluting than the fashion industry? Any thoughts Deepak Kumar?

H&M Group Adam Karlsson Henrik Sundberg Really commendable work in building a network to promote decarbonisation in the supply chain. We invite such strong initiative in India to help farmers sequester carbon in soil and generate Carbon credits for Brands to trade and offset.
