55 interns in 2024! Wanted to give a shout out to our team, Hingham Street Partners at UBS, on another successful year of inspiring the next generation of workers through our internship program. Great job to the advisors and mentors on our team who make this possible!
The programs agenda is outlined below.
Work on a project that may potentially help us with the management of our portfolios and present your findings to our portfolio team
Work on researching an individual equity idea, or "theme based" industry idea, and present your thoughts and findings to each other and to our portfolio team
Develop a white paper and present your work to your Mentee Cohort and our Leadership Team (Examples: "Fraud Prevention" and "Survival Guide for Teens and Early 20s")
Inspiring and insightful guest speakers providing leadership and career advice
Presentations from former Hingham Street Partners Mentees to discuss how they were able to navigate and leverage their Hingham Street Partners Mentorship experience to get to the next level
A personal mentor from our team who will help guide your success in the program and answer any questions that you may have
Twice weekly Zoom meetings. The rest of the week will be used as time to work on your projects.
Additionally, during each session, we will offer you an investment lesson as well as a life lesson that we hope helps guide your heart and attitude and lead you to a successful and happy life.

In less than a month, the first day of classes begin. And a couple of weeks later, campus recruiting kicks off! 🏫 We caught up with rising 2nd year Vanderbilt University - Owen Graduate School of Management MBA student, Colin Spear who is interning this summer with Fidelity Investments in the Finance Leadership Development Program.

The MBA world spins like a well-oiled gear. Just as the scent of graduation roses fills the air, a bittersweet undercurrent flows. Senior classmates, once bleary-eyed classmates fueled by coffee and case studies, turn into polished professionals ready to conquer the corporate jungle. Yet, the halls don't stay empty for long. A fresh wave of eager juniors washes in, their eyes bright with ambition, ready to dive headfirst into their summer internships – the coveted SIP. The torch is passed, the cycle continues. Seniors become alumni, sharing their war stories of late nights and triumphs. Juniors, armed with newfound summer experiences, step up to become the seasoned veterans themselves. The MBA circle spins, year after year, a constant churn of knowledge, growth, and goodbyes laced with the promise of new beginnings.

"We shouldn't have to do that"
Recently I was talking to someone in the industry and that was their sentiment surrounding extended & enhanced onboarding for new summer interns.
We had just discussed how our Workforce Development team gets a full week to get our new summer interns (current college students studying something construction or engineering related) and how appreciative we are that our Execs & Operations Team fully support this investment.
Should we HAVE to do this? To me that is irrelevant - we have data and anecdotal evidence showing that we NEED to do this.
Our commitment to "Investing In People" compels us to take the time necessary to set these young folks (most of whom are new to the industry) up for success & for "Winning In The Field"
Reminds us of the quote from Henry Ford: "The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay."
It's good for the interns, Sargent, our industry, and our region(s). And it's a really fun week for Kevin Gordon & me! 😃
