The ambitious EU project aims to transform over 100 European municipalities into net-zero 'climate cities' by 2030, requiring rapid public and private investment. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has earmarked €2bn for this mission, while the European Commission has established a financial advisory service. Launched in April 2022, the ‘Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities’ project selected 100 EU cities and 12 associated with Horizon Europe. The Climate City Capital Hub, announced at a recent conference in Valencia, focuses on private capital engagement, supported by an EU mission on climate adaptation. The EIB's financing and advisory services are available to the 33 cities awarded the ‘EU Cities Mission Label,’ with a further 23 under review. The €2bn facility targets investments in energy-efficient buildings, district heating, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, urban renewal, water, and social infrastructure. Bankers without Boundaries, a social enterprise, highlighted a €650bn funding gap for the 112 cities to achieve net-zero by 2030. . . Join us in accelerating change! 🍃 What should Finland and Sweco do to make the green transition happen? ✅ We need to preserve what exists and works, build thoughtfully and on demand and in energy-efficient way. ✅Finland has a good opportunity here to offer a location for high-tech industry which brings investments and tax-revenue. ✅Sweco wants to raise awareness of what the green transition actually means.
