Sometimes, you just gotta tell clients that their baby is ugly (metaphorically speaking, of course). 😃 In the world of environmental consulting, this usually means breaking the news that their site is less "mildly blemished" and more "toxic avenger origin story." And even though as an environmental professional, the responsibility to tell it like it is, is PARAMOUNT – it still crushes your soul a little wee bit to tell a valued client that despite their best intentions and tiny budget, it’s likely going to cost a bunch of bucks (maybe even millions) to fix the problem. You know they won’t be sleeping easy that night, and therefore neither will you. A wee bit of empathy is sometimes needed to understand how your client is going to take the hit - and while we never 'sugar-coat' the environmental realities, we can certainly sweeten the delivery with a dash of tact and a sprinkle of support. After all, we're not just delivering bad news, we can also help them do the hard things, and bounce forward with integrity. So here's to all the "ugly babies" out there - may we have the courage to see them clearly and the wisdom to help our clients do the same. 🥂 And here's to all of us brave souls who've had to break it to a client that their site isn't just a little dirty, it's a legit disaster - may your hazmat suits be ever-stylish and your sense of humor remain intact! 🍻 Anyone else have any "ugly baby" stories? Inspired , as always, by @DanielPriestly's latest interview ( Diary of a CEO), I took a break from weaving a sunhive and used the AI tools within Scoreapp to produce a new quiz. It literally took me around 20minutes, including tweaks and adding an image. Then, I discovered the AI tools can write your social media posts for you to promote the quiz! It's easier to create self-responsibility in a climate of psychological safety where people feel safe to admit a mistake.
