ME: I think Godzilla Minus One winning best VFX was actually a really great pick. It sends the message that the key to amazing low budget visuals comes down to having a director with VFX experience and a consistent vision that isn't constantly mucked with by the studio. Heck, most gigantic budget movies I've worked on could have been made for a fraction of the cost if the director had known how to shoot for VFX/if the studio execs hadn't screwed the project over with endless notes!! Sticking to your pre-production pays off, every time. Nice!!!! THE INDUSTRY: Godzilla Minus One won best VFX on a tiny budget. We can now demand that VFX costs very little without changing anything else about the way we make big movies.
