Today marks the 45th birthday of Daycos. Since it is kind of a milestone year, I wanted to share a few thoughts. Forty-five years ago my parents moved from Houston, TX to the Washington DC area to start John Day and Associates, as Daycos was originally known. While it may have had a name that sounded professional, I recall the beginnings to be quite humble: a few tables in the basement of our rental home, and the "Associates" referenced in the name were my mom, my sister, and myself (and I was 6 years old at the time). From those humble beginnings, Daycos has been very successful by the traditional measurements of businesses. We are consistently profitable, debt free, and have had consistent growth over decades in business. However, I don't think those traditional markers of success are what I think is worth noting. To me, the success of Daycos is about more than profits, it is about our people, our customers, and our community. I’ve heard other business owners talk about how hard it is to have employees to take "ownership" in their companies, and we’ve been fortunate that we’ve never had that problem at Daycos. Our employees operate with such a high level of pride and ownership in the company that it humbles me. We are intentional about investing in our employees, and those investments have consistently paid off over the years in Daycos attracting and retaining some of the smartest, most dedicated, and hardworking people I could ever hope to work with. And of course, none of this is possible without the great partnerships we have built with our loyal and supportive customers. We measure customer relationships in decades, not years, because we have always tried to focus on making our customers successful. We’ve probably said "yes" to a lot of requests from customers that we should’ve turned down from a strict dollars and cents point of view, but we have 45 years of evidence to show that our belief in those relationship investments has paid off over the long term for us and for our customers. Finally, I believe Daycos wouldn’t have been as successful without the decision to move to Norfolk, Nebraska, which was my mother's hometown. Being located in this supportive community with such a strong culture of hard work and loyalty has been invaluable. When we give back to our community, it's not just because we charitable, it's because we’re returning some of the profits of this company to the community that helped make them possible. While certainly not without challenges, it has been a great 45 years of business for Daycos. So to every person who has had a role in Daycos over the years, whether you are a current or former employee, a customer, an industry partner, a community member, or a friend, thank you for your contribution to 45 years of success to this unique small business trying to do business in the best way it can.
On this special day, we’re thrilled to mark the 45th birthday of Daycos! Thank you to our four stakeholders: Our loyal customers, hardworking employees, supportive community, and the foundation behind it all – our incredible company. Each one plays an essential role in our journey, propelling us forward and transforming Daycos into a powerful force for good in the world. Learn more about Daycos4Good here: daycos.com/daycos4good/

Four years ago I tripped into yet another opportunity, building One Day Agency. As with every other I came across, I said yes. Why? The learning opportunity was just immense to not take it as with all the previous ones. And that's how I got here today after a few countries and roles as a leader of an advertising agency: I focus on learning a ton and I care a ton. Over 30% of my weekly time is purely reading and absorbing content. And applying it, testing it, daily. In addition to some "hacks": - Change jobs regularly: you'll maximise the number of people you meet, the knowledge of each environment you can get access to, your financial potential, and so on unlocking more opportunities and knowledge. - Plan ahead: pick jobs that enable you the skills you will need in 2 years. Want to be the head of the department? Go into a job that will teach you all the knowledge needed to run that department. If that department has multiple silos, you guessed it, you'll need to learn all the silos meaning at times different jobs/roles. - Acquire self-awareness: talk to people openly about your shortfalls and seek advice, self-awareness is the most powerful tool for your personal development and career. - Open criticism: how are you going to do something better if you or your environment doesn't allow sharing ideas and criticism? You won't, you'll be average. - Don't fall into money traps: some life decisions such as buying a house or high-paying sales jobs are nothing but traps. I know, polarising. Great for the short term, really bad for the long term. - Invest in absorbing content, in learning, constantly, every day. You'd be surprised what 15 minutes a day does for you from unlocking new conversations or winning the pitch. Subscribe to relevant people on your phone. What are your hacks and advice to anyone looking to move the needle on their career?
Oof. What a ride! 😮💨 It's been an immense pleasure working in the last 4 years with incredibly talented people from our team to clients and our partners. So, thank you all of you. We'll continue working to do more and better, and keep your eyes peeled because in early January we have really exciting news of a new addition to the team. If you're in Manchester, please join us in the celebrations at Alberts Schloss this evening! Thank you ❤️

It's hard to believe that our family company will be celebrating its 80th Anniversary this year (Since 1944). The last 3 months have been a turbulent time in the Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications market segment. We have seen a 100-year-old manufacture in this segment close their doors (Superior Die Set), and needless to say, this has caused a “ripple effect” through the 5 states we are Blessed to service (MO / IL / KS / IA / NE). But it is in these times of change, we (Lee Horneyer Company) felt it imperative to take a hard “look in the mirror” in the trust and value we are offering to our marketplace in this segment (Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications). Lee Horneyer Company (Since 1944) is proud to introduce a company that is “that” (On time… As Promised… At a Cost In Line With Fair Market Value), but so much more…..

Pleased to see Volution’s interim results well received by the market this morning. An underlying operating margin of 22.4% (versus management’s through-cycle target of 21.0%) is exceptional, as is the nudge up in FY24 EPS guidance, despite cyclical weakness in some key European markets. At 450p Volution trades on a forward PER of circa 16x. Based on long-term EPS CAGR of c.12% this implies a modest PEG ratio of 1.33. Volution is, in my view, a classic Buffett ‘franchise stock’ with sector-leading margins, modest leverage and sustainable ROE well above its cost of equity. In addition to this is the positive economic value generated by M&A and its exposure to growing secular demand for improved indoor air quality (exemplified by the recent surge in demand from UK social housing following 2 major changes to UK law).
Tough markets, but we made it! Volution's strong first half-year performance is a testament to the dedication and passion of our teams, who are committed to providing "healthy air, sustainably" in all of our local markets. Thank you for your hard work and unwavering commitment. Check out our latest news: https://lnkd.in/dJ39kKkA
