Cox Architecture chosen to design new Tasmania Stadium COX, a leading Australian architectural firm, has been chosen as the Lead Design Consultant for the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC)'s Multipurpose Stadium in Tasmania. The new stadium in Hobart would be home to the Tasmania Football Club of the AFL - Australian Football League. COX has designed sports venues including Optus Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium, Dunedin Stadium and the redesign of the Adelaide Oval. Alastair Richardson, Director at Cox Architecture, told ABC News that while it was incredibly early days, they had some ideas, but were “wary” of earlier artistic renders. He said: "They give some clues of what we don’t want to do. This building needs to be scaled, transparent, open, something that actually has an engagement with the city and not a concrete wall, sort of blocking off its access. One of the key things we want to do is to really make sure that this engages with the streetscape, that this engages with people walking around, and obviously is respectful to the Cenotaph in terms of how it sits just below the escarpment. Can we sink it slightly? What does that look like? How do we maintain the envelope such that the height is there in relation to cricket and football for example? But is as low as possible in terms of the perimeter." I’m excited to share a significant update from this past December when I first spotted a market opportunity that seemed unattainable for me alone. This gap in the podcast and broadcast studio furniture design and manufacturing sector initially seemed fleeting, especially as the holiday season approached, but it resurfaced strongly after my Christmas vacation. An internal nudge reminded me of this unexplored area. Despite having no background in furniture design or fabrication, the idea persisted, compelling me to consider how I might venture into this new field. The universe sometimes aligns in mysterious ways, and what some might call luck, others might see as preparation meeting opportunity. Returning from vacation, I fortuitously discussed this idea outside my house with my neighbor and friend Kyle Martin. This conversation unexpectedly led to an introduction to Clay Adams. Clay, who has designed and manufactured high-end furniture for venues like Mercedes Benz Stadium, Arthur Blank, and various sports franchises, showed interest partly due to his curiosity and my enthusiasm. The very next day, I contacted KandIce Kerstin Price from Broadcasters General Store, well-known in the broadcast industry. Our conversation centered around how Castlogix, LLC could address a void they were experiencing. Kandice’s positive reaction, fueled by her appreciation of our vision and Clay's extensive background, marked the beginning of a promising collaboration. Four months after these discussions, I'm thrilled to announce that Castlogix, LLC is now officially in business. We've nearly completed our product catalog and are actively receiving orders. We're also currently featured at BGS's booth at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas. Castlogix, LLC is poised to become a leader in designing and constructing modern, innovative furniture for broadcast, podcast, production, and music studios. Our capabilities extend to custom, modern office furniture, with several product lines already in development. This journey, which started from a simple idea, has been made possible by the support and trust from names like David Kerstin and Kandice Kerstin Price. With the combined expertise of Clay Adams in furniture design and manufacturing, a good friend’s engineering experience, and our fresh vision, Castlogix, LLC is excited to serve and innovate in this niche market. This got me thinking about the WiZink Center in Madrid, a fantastic example of how a stadium can serve the community year-round. Located in the city's heart, the WiZink Center avoids becoming a “white elephant” by staying versatile and engaging. This arena is not just for sports events and concerts; it’s a vibrant part of the city, seamlessly integrated into its urban fabric. Here’s why the WiZink Center stands out: • Versatility: With a capacity of up to 16,000 spectators, the venue is adaptable to various events, ranging from basketball games to large-scale concerts. Each year, it hosts over 169 music events, 104 sporting events, and 60 events from other categories! • Community Engagement: Centrally located, it revitalizes nearby neighbourhoods, attracting locals and visitors and boosting local businesses. • Design and Functionality: Its design invites people in, offering restaurants, bars, and retail spaces that operate even on non-event days, making it a lively community hub.
