Why should you pay attention to new #AIStandards? They provide frameworks for effective AI governance and tracking them can provide advance notice of potential future legal requirements. Yesterday, ISO/IEC 42001 was released with guidance on developing, improving, and monitoring Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). This standard will likely guide emerging regulations – primarily in the European Union and United States – in the form of guiding principles and mechanisms for future legislation. Aaaaaaand the first countdown starts! ⏳ The EU AI Act 🤖 📜 has been finally published, which means in 20 days, i.e., as of 01.08.2024 it will come into force. After that, other countdowns start: ⌛ most provisions will be applicable after a transitional phase of 24 months (so August 2026) ⌛provisions on general purpose AI models will be applicable already after 12 months (so August 2025) ⌛ provisions on prohibited AI use cases will be applicable even earlier after 6 months (so February 2025) So if your organisation haven't started yet tackling the topic of AI governance and compliance, now is the right time to do so 🙂 #euaiact #airegulation #aigovernance #trustworthyai

On December 18, 2023, the International Organization for Standardization (#ISO) adopted ISO 42001-2023, which sets a voluntary #standard for organizations to implement an #artificial #intelligence (#AI) management system. ISO 42001 may become an enforceable standard for AI #governance. Organizations deploying high-risk systems must demonstrate compliance with the EU AI Act. EU policymakers have indicated that compliance with ISO 42001 may be incorporated into the conformity assessment requirements. #NIST could align some of its future AI-standards setting work with ISO 42001. Given that US regulators are likely to rely on NIST’s AI standards for establishing AI regulatory regimes, this has the potential to translate aspects of ISO 42001 into enforceable obligations in the US. The #AIAct is out! 🚀 This legislation sets comprehensive guidelines for the development, deployment, and use of AI across the EU. It aims to ensure that AI technologies are safe, used carefully, and respect fundamental rights while fostering innovation and competitiveness. Its now imperative that organizations understand their AI exposure landscape and act accordingly in line with the Act's requirements. Key highlights: - Enforcement mechanisms and penalties for non-compliance. - Risk-based classification of AI systems. - Strict requirements for high-risk AI applications. - Measures to promote transparency and accountability.
