The old-school notion that a leader must know everything about everything is a relic of the past. Watch an expert’s instincts at work … against him. This kid false started because someone had a toy whistle that sounded just like the real thing. Classic case of great instincts, wrong trigger. This is exactly the pattern I keep seeing with successful leaders - the more right you've been, the harder it gets to tell real signals from really good fakes. After working with executives at 7 and 8-figure companies, I've noticed there are actually three distinct stages to this challenge. The first stage is what I call "earned confidence" - when your instincts have been validated so many times that your decisions become reflex-level fast.
