Elevating healthcare education and workforce programs to address the nation's critical shortage of allied health workforce.
Attention all you allied health and healthcare advocates, check out the article and reserach below as it is a great example of the lack of knowledge and research associated with the Medical Assisting profession, which is one of the fastest growing and in demand allied health professions. It should certianly be used as a conversation starter to highlight the level of care and scope of duties assigned to Medical Assistants and the lack of understanding and awareness of their role within the healthcare ecosystem. In addition, the research study identifies a large area of risk within MA to Physician ratios and presents that health care system ownership of primary care practices may impede patient-centered innovation, such as MA role expansion, because they require resources that may not be sufficiently aligned with existing health care system goals or incentives. The majority of primary care practices are owned or being acquired by large health systems or networks. With the industry needing to move more toward value-based vs. fee-for-service payment models, the care provided through a team-based care approach is proving to be most successful. However, only 11.4% of health system owned practices had ratios of 2 or more MAs per PCCs as recommended. Inherently this means the level of care being delivered to millions of patients is often inadequate. I believe this could fuel a much larger and more detailed conversation about the importance of allied health professionals and the impact that they have on the current and future care model. #alliedhealthprofessionals #medicalassistants
