I am pleased to announce that I will be facilitating an online safe space consultation meeting titled "Man Enough? Rethinking the Question," co-facilitated with Harish Sadani, co-founder and executive director of Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA). This event will feature an open dialogue focused on men, emotions, mental health, and masculinities. We will explore: - How traditional and contemporary views on masculinity affect men's mental health and emotional well-being. - The importance of allowing men to express their emotions freely and the societal barriers that often hinder this. - How we can collectively redefine what it means to be "man enough" in a way that promotes emotional health and well-being. The meeting aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can share their experiences, learn from one another, and contribute to a broader understanding of these critical issues. This month offers an opportunity to foster empathy, educate, and provide support for those affected. It's a call to action to break the silence surrounding self-injury, promoting open dialogue and compassion. Through increased awareness, we can dismantle misconceptions and offer avenues for healing and recovery. Let's utilize this month to amplify voices, extend empathy, and foster understanding. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment where individuals struggling with self-injury feel seen, heard, and supported on their journey towards healing and self-acceptance.

Moving beyond tinkering at the edges of innovation and into a space where innovation and design thinking are central to our work has been transformative for me. Although I'm not fond of public speaking, being able to share the insights I've gained since joining Healthy Families Whanganui Rangitīkei Ruapehu has been incredibly rewarding, especially in my field of mahi. It also gives me permission to think in a different way then I’m used to after working for so long in our mainstream services. Shifting our focus to prevention rather than crisis changes how we perceive mental health and addiction. It's the system that's the problem, not the people. Systemic change addresses the complexities underlying the issues that keep them in place, and there's something remarkable about transitioning from attempting to solve problems as individuals to addressing them collectively. Change can be truly transformative when approached collectively. Shifting to growing collective wellbeing is the narrative in our rohe, strengths based and whānau focussed.
