CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY, The Holmberg Way Each year at our holiday party, we spotlight a local non-profit/charity. Paws for Purple Hearts stole the show for 2024's big event! Our CEO, Jeff White, welcomed Olivia (puppy) and her trainer, Cassidy (right), along with Sonja with PPH on the stage as we raised money for this Tacoma-based organization. They train dogs to help Veterans with mobility issues and/or PTSD in their daily lives. The training process is lengthy, typically 24 months. When they graduate, the dogs know upwards of 150 commands. Thank you Paws for Purple Hearts for the important work to support Veterans! Today is the day! Your final chance to make a lasting impact during San Diego Gives. But today is not just any day—it's also the International Day of Charity, a global call to action, and September marks Suicide Awareness Month, a time to stand united in support of mental health and suicide prevention. Your support has never been more crucial. As we navigate these final hours, we need your help to lift up our local veteran and military community. These brave men and women have given so much, and now it's our turn to give back. Why Your Support Matters: Impact: Your donations are the lifeline that allows us to deliver essential career coaching, mentoring, and training to veterans and their families. Every dollar you contribute directly reduces unemployment, prevents veteran suicides, and empowers military spouses to find meaningful civilian careers. Your support is not just a donation; it's a life-changing investment in our heroes' futures. Community: Together, we are a force for good. By joining hands, we’re making San Diego a better place for those who have sacrificed so much for our country. How You Can Help: Donate to VETS - Beyond The Uniform (https://lnkd.in/gBme582Y): Even the smallest contribution can make a world of difference. Your generosity today can change lives—please consider donating now. Share: Spread the word by sharing our campaign with #SanDiegoGives. Let your community know that supporting our active duty, veterans, and military spouses is a cause worth championing. This is the moment to make a difference. Your support today will help veterans and their families gain the resources they need to thrive in civilian life. Let’s honor their service by standing with them now. Thank you for being a part of this important mission! One in four adults experience mental illness, and many more of us know and care for people who do. Talking openly about we feel can help. That’s why at Tesco we have decided to do our bit in helping to raise awareness, and hopefully collect some donations along the way! On the 30th May 2024, four Tesco Colleagues will start the Medicine Ball challenge which involves cuffing a 3kg Medicine Ball to their wrist for a number of days, over the following 4 weeks it will change hands with over 20 Colleagues taking part. 3kg may not sound that heavy but being tied to a medicine ball is no easy task. The ball becomes a physical, visual and tangible representation of the invisible burden of mental health that so many of us can experience. The Challenge is being carried out in collaboration with the Tesco Armed Forces Network in the lead up to Armed Forces week 24th -29th June 2024. Any donations raised during the challenge will be split evenly between the following charities: Army Benevolent Fund Combat Stress If you would like to show your support and make a donation, please use the link below to access our Just Giving Team page. https://lnkd.in/eYuxQgxY All support will be gratefully received 🤗 #tesco #Armedforcesnetwork #Medicineballchallenge #mentalhealthawareness #itsgoodtotalk

For #WorldStatisticsDay, we share this important statistic from our last impact report. While we feel an immense sense of pride in these numbers, our impact cannot be communicated with numbers alone. You need to feel the grateful handshakes and watch the genuine smiles grow across the faces of our resilient Veterans. You need to see the tears in the eyes of a Veteran and their family when you hand them the keys to their new apartment. You need to experience the long hours and late nights that our amazing team puts in to make our mission a reality. Our work is not about adding zeros to statistics- it’s about the Veterans. It’s about those moments, big and small, that illustrate our contributions to people’s lives. If you would like to support our mission of helping Veterans experiencing homelessness or crisis, please consider donating on our website: nationsfinest.org/donate #NationsFinest #OurImpact #SupportVeterans #StatisticsDay #Veterans #Nonprofit #Donate #SocialWork #GIveBack #Veteran

Homeless veterans’ charity Launchpad Veterans has appointed four new Trustees to its Board. Ian Dormer CBE, Katherine McGough, Aaron Sahota and Chris Smith have been appointed as Trustees of the charity, following interviews with existing Board members and chief executive. The appointments were approved by existing Trustees at their last meeting in November and it now takes current membership to ten. The charity provides vital accommodation and targeted support to UK Armed Forces’ veterans who have experienced homelessness and have struggled with the transition into civilian life. Launchpad manages three houses in the North of England in Newcastle upon Tyne, Liverpool and Durham and accepts veterans from all over the UK. It provides accommodation for 98 homeless veterans at any one time. Demand for specialist veteran’s accommodation and services is increasing, with 361 homeless veterans’ approaching, or being referred to Launchpad in 2024 alone. https://lnkd.in/eY_Q7QMZ #armedforcescommunity

This Veterans Day, we recognize and thank all of our G&A Partners veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. Your dedication, bravery, and resilience have made a lasting impact, and we honor you today and every day. Did you know that on any given night, over 37,000 veterans are experiencing homelessness in the United States?* As part of our commitment to honoring veterans, G&A Partners' Veterans Employee Resource Group, SERV, has been working hard to raise awareness and support for those who continue to face challenges after their service. This year, we are joining forces to support U.S. VETS, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness among veterans. Through our internal fundraising efforts, we are helping U.S. VETS to provide housing, resources, and a path forward for veterans in need. If you're looking for a way to give back, consider supporting veterans in your community—whether through volunteering, donations to organizations like U.S. VETS, or by simply offering a kind gesture. This #GivingTuesday, I want to share the incredible impact of Platoon 22, an organization that is so much more than just a veteran service—it's a family that truly connects with and supports every individual who walks through our doors. Platoon 22 is dedicated to providing life-changing resources for veterans and first responders, offering support in areas like affordable housing, financial assistance, mentorship, and year round support. But it’s not just about services; it's about the relationships we build. We take the time to truly see and understand each person who comes to us for help, and we don’t stop until we’ve made a meaningful difference in their lives. The number 22 represents the average number of veterans we lose to suicide every day. 22 a day is too many, and we are working relentlessly to end this tragic statistic. Our mission is personal, and our team is committed to supporting those who have sacrificed so much for us. This #GivingTuesday, I ask that you consider supporting Platoon 22 in any way you can—whether through a donation, volunteering your time, or spreading the word. Your contribution will help us continue to make a tangible impact in the lives of our heroes, ensuring that they never have to face their struggles alone. Together, we can end veteran suicide. https://lnkd.in/eufiFeTr #SupportOurHeroes #Veterans #FirstResponders #Platoon22 #AffordableHousing #FamilySupport #HolidaySupport #EndVeteranSuicide #GivingTuesday2024 #MakeADifference

On the 27th of April I will be joining my team for the 2nd year, undertaking a 24 hour “Hero” Crossfit-style workout in order to raise funds and awareness for Veterans and First Responders living with Operational Stress Injuries. Each of the 24 workouts has been dedicated to reflect on the sacrifices of the fallen and to honour the memories of those men and women. Starting on the Saturday morning at 8am each team member will perform a different hero workout every hour on the hour until 8am Sunday morning. To support those who dedicate their lives and stand on the front line for us, I would welcome any donations which are tax deductable to; https://lnkd.in/gVrWTiNu Why we are doing it: 24 hours of Heroes Australia is supporting Wounded Heroes Australia “Wounded Heroes Association is a national community organisation doing whatever it takes to provide support to Australian servicemen and women and their families, to ease the financial, emotional and personal hardships of contemporary military life.” www.woundedheroes.org.au 24 hours of Hero workouts dedicated to Veterans and First Responders living with mental health issues, those that have lost their lives as a result of a mental health related illness or those that have passed in the line of duty As with Wounded Heroes, Homeless Heroes are 'first-responders' and supports not only homeless veterans but also partners of veterans, where other community services are not immediately available. From 2001 to 2017, there were 419 suicides in serving, reserve and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have served since 2001. Compared with Australian men, the age-adjusted rate of suicide over this period was 48% lower for men serving and in the reserves, and 18% higher for ex-serving men. Over the same period, the age-adjusted rate of suicide among ex-serving women was higher than that of Australian women.
