📣Construction news in North Carolina 🗺 Did you know that North Carolina is the 11th most populous state in the US and one of the fastest-growing states in the country? 🤔 The construction industry in the state is also booming, with thousands of new contractors and construction companies popping up every year. 📈 Here's some of what's new and exciting in the field of general construction: NC-DOT has recently announced a $3.2 billion plan to upgrade and repair the state's roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure. 🚧 The North Carolina General Assembly recently passed a law that requires all new construction projects to be built with green materials and energy-efficient designs. 🌱 A new initiative in the state is aiming to partner with local contractors to provide affordable housing for low-income families. 🏠 #NCConstruction #GreenBuilding #AffordableHousing #northcarolina #construction #constructionjobs #ewi

The #historyenterprise includes structures like bridges. This was a historic bridge built in 1936. Considerations include both the historic fabric and public safety. Neither is intrinsically more important than the other but a nod more often goes to public safety. Sometimes solutions include saving the bridge as a part of our built heritage and constructing an alternate span and road realignment.

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” Channeling my inner Mark Twain today as rumors circulate about Plain City possibly imposing a moratorium on new development. Contrary to these rumors, there’s no moratorium – it hasn’t even crossed our minds. Plain City is open for business.   It seems our recent success has stirred up some misinformation, intentionally or otherwise. Let’s set the record straight: our partnership with the Mid-Ohio Regional Water & Sewer District, initiated 14 months ago, is on track to increase capacity in 18-24 months. During this time, new PTIs may face approval delays from the OEPA, a point we’ve been transparent about with developers. For those considering new projects, this timeline aligns well with the overall site acquisition, design/engineering, and approval processes. Rest assured, projects will have access to water and sewer when needed. Meanwhile, ongoing projects are progressing smoothly and are right on schedule. Moreso, we're actively working with multiple developers for projects set to launch in 2024 and beyond.      So, while the rumors of our 'woes' are greatly exaggerated, we're here to answer questions and clear up any confusion.

*Attention Virginia Builders* *Virginia Senate Bill 195* The Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development is in the midst of forming a stakeholder advisory group which will include fire code officials, licensed building professionals and other building safety experts to evaluate and recommend revisions to the Uniform Statewide Building Code to permit Group R-2 occupancies to be served by a single exit, provided that the building has not more than six stories above grade plane. The bill requires the stakeholder advisory group to submit its findings and recommendations to the Board and to the Chairmen of the House Committee on General Laws and the Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology no later than December 1, 2024. "I strongly encourage the Hampton Road building construction community to get involved and speak up on behalf of the building safety professionals that have worked tirelessly for many years to provide us with the most comprehensive building and fire safety codes and regulations. The importance of having a second means of egress in R-2 occupancies is so important to have in the event of a fire to give occupants an alternative means of egress. The group lobbying for this change stated that the second means of egress will be when the fire department shows up with a ladder truck. For those individuals with limited mobility that could prove fatal. The group lobbying for this change has also failed to think through the importance of having a second means of egress in the unfortunate event of an active shooter situation to give building occupants a second means of exit. Again, I strongly encourage the Hampton Road Building Construction industry to get involved, look at the facts and speak up to keep Virginia Multi-Family housing as safe as possible. In 2022, Sandy Lake received funding amounting to $2.6 million for the construction of 18 isolation units, equivalent to six houses featuring three rooms each. Our collaborative efforts involved partnering with Ed Mickelson from Mach 1 in Thunder Bay and Greg Munroe of GD Electric in Pickle Lake. To expedite the project, Greg Munroe received an upfront payment of $1.5 million to facilitate the acquisition of materials via the winter road, while Ed Mickelson was allocated $780,000 to commence construction. Regrettably, following these initial transactions, both partners became unresponsive. Despite partial material deliveries and the initiation of a few foundations, the completion status remains far from the anticipated progress. An alarming $2.3 million has been disbursed for work that should have concluded in 2022. Given the persisting challenges posed by Covid and the critical need for isolation housing, this situation exacerbates an already severe housing crisis within our community. Our primary objective is to find a resolution, considering the urgency of the matter. However, our attempts to communicate with these partners have been met with silence. As a responsible measure, we feel compelled to alert other First Nations to our unfortunate experience. While we are open to an amicable resolution, we are also exploring the possibility of legal action. If any other affected parties wish to collaborate in this pursuit, it seems we may not be alone in facing such issues.
