Here's a fantastic story of how an apprenticeship shaped this young women's life. Apprenticeships are probably the best way to earn while you learn with absolutely no cost to the apprentice BUT they are not the only way to get into the trades. Trades schools and On-The-Job (OTJ) Training are also pathways. As a matter of fact, my career started entirely with OTJ training and eventually some formal education later on. Interesting read and some very good points. There is a high need for more practical career advising in higher education institutions. Graduates need skills to be prepared for the workforce, not just head knowledge on a certain topic.
