Hello friends, scientists and communicators! Here is a little #mondaymotivation for you all. At CSIRO Publishing I run so many workshops and very frequently hear participants say "my English isn't good enough for academic writing" or "I'm not confident with my English." I have a confession: Despite teaching writing for a living, good spelling and grammar don't come easily to me and I've had to put in the practice. In fact the post I'm sharing comes from someone who was extremely patient with my early academic writing efforts and personally inspires me. Dr Michael Seery shares a mural from their workplace at the Centre for Academic Language and Develop at the University of Bristol: "Academic Language is no one's mother tongue". I would like to add that no one is born a good writer - there are just people that have had more practice at it! I hope this inspires you today to put aside your worries about being a "good writer", sit down and write for 15 minutes and practice writing some words on a page. Incorporate short segments for recognition into meetings where you spotlight and appreciate people by highlighting their hard work and dedication in general but also calling out specific instances of going above and beyond. ➡️ It doesn't have to be fancy, but it should be meaningful. You'll likely find that taking time to celebrate is just as important (and healthy) for you as much as it is for your team.

This week has been such a whirlwind, and I’m so grateful for every moment of it. Yesterday, I wrapped up the week here at the beautiful Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club delivering in-person session with my incredible client, H. H is focused on positioning herself for a promotion, and during our session, we reviewed her amazing progress so far (she’s achieved so much 🔥). Then, we set some key actions to keep her keep moving forward: ✅ Reviewing her performance: Celebrating her achievements and progress toward current objectives while identifying gaps and opportunities through self-reflection and proactive feedback from key stakeholders. ✅Prioritising the next 3 months: Defining those needle-moving tasks that align with her goals (as a busy mum of two, her time is precious, and every moment counts!). ✅Building her personal brand: Exploring ways to strengthen her visibility and reputation, both within and outside her organisation so she’s front of mind for opportunities, in a way that feels authentic to her as an introvert. It was such a productive and inspiring session! I even managed to squeeze in a swim, sauna and steam after before racing off to pick up the boys. 🟩 Now, tell me—what’s been the highlight of your week?
