The art of slow craftsmanship: finding value in taking your time In a fast-paced world, what is the value of taking your time? As an architect and founder of Midsummer-Milano, I've come to appreciate slow craftsmanship. Stepping away from mass production to perfect each element brings profound value. Slow craftsmanship leads to higher quality, timelessness, and sustainability. It values durability, attention to detail, and heritage. At Midsummer-Milano, we build each project to endure and bring lasting meaning. Sustainability and natural materials are core principles for us. Embracing slow craftsmanship means rejecting the disposable nature of modern design. We create spaces that reflect care, respect for the environment, and tell a meaningful story. Today, there is a movement towards valuing craft and quality. This means working with local artisans, selecting materials thoughtfully, and dedicating time to create functional, emotionally rich designs. Imperfections in manual craft make each piece unique, adding the human touch that mass production lacks. These slight irregularities breathe life into architecture. Taking the time to do something well creates lasting results. Slow craftsmanship is about quality and sustainability—principles that are rare but essential in our modern world. What are your thoughts on the value of slow craftsmanship today? How can we foster this mindset to create meaningful, lasting work? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
