Baseball, America's pastime, is transforming. ⚾ In a bid to capture the fleeting attention of the TikTok generation, the MLB introduced a pitch clock to speed up the game. It's a move that has purists clutching their pearls and statisticians recalibrating their spreadsheets. The Fast and the Furious: MLB Edition In an era where a 10-second video is considered a lengthy commitment, the MLB is trying to make baseball more palatable to the youth. The pitch clock is their latest attempt to keep the game under three hours because apparently, that's the magic number where attention spans completely disintegrate. A Race Against Time Pitchers, once the maestros of the mound, taking their sweet time between throws, are now racing against the clock. It's like watching an episode of Chopped, where the chef has to whip up a gourmet meal before the timer goes off. Except here, it's a fastball instead of a soufflé. The Purists vs. The Progressives The introduction of the pitch clock has sparked a debate between baseball purists and progressives. Purists argue that the beauty of baseball lies in its leisurely pace, where every pitch is a chess move. Progressives, conversely, are popping popcorn, thrilled at the prospect of a game that doesn't require a calendar invite. The Bottom Line Whether you're a fan of the change or a staunch traditionalist, one thing is clear: the MLB is determined to make baseball a quick fix rather than a slow burn. As the pitch clock ticks down, we're left to wonder, will this be a home run for the MLB, or will it strike out with fans? So, what's your take? Are you team pitch clock, or are you yearning for the days when baseball games were a test of endurance? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to subscribe to End of the Bench Sports!
It was revealed today that Major League Baseball’s decision to reduce the pitch clock this season from twenty to eighteen seconds with runners on base is only the first step toward the sport’s ultimate goal of giving pitchers a single second to throw the ball.

Modern defensive metrics in baseball vary significantly in their approach to evaluating fielders. For instance, Fangraphs’ dWAR (fdWAR) is a good measure of athleticism, whereas Baseball Reference’s dWAR (bdWAR) better measures overall defensive performance, including positioning. In today's post, I will use bdWAR and fdWAR to determine which teams had the smartest, most athletic, and overall best defenses in 2023. #baseballAnalytics #ParaballNotes Major League Baseball (MLB) https://lnkd.in/eCEMd3rs

Innovation and sports go hand and hand. The same way it does with business. To innovate you must create and develop enhancements to the product. The Savannah Bananas are always ahead of the curve when it comes to this, influencing the overall perception of the game of baseball.
Introducing a new Banana Ball Rule - Rule #11 - The Golden Batter Rule. Now, the best hitter in the lineup is guaranteed the opportunity to come up to bat with the game on the line. This rule was inspired by thinking about other sports specifically basketball, where your best player can take the shot at the end of the game. In baseball, you could be at the end of your lineup in the 9th inning and your best hitters don't even have a chance to win the game. This past year, we saw this in the World Baseball Classic as Mike Trout faced Shohei Ohtani in the 9th inning with two outs. The best hitter vs the best pitcher. It was epic and the world was watching. Now in Banana Ball, we have the opportunity to create that magic every single night. This will be an absolute game changer. P.S. I didn't realize it until looking at our display at the Hall of Fame a month ago, but this rule was written in my idea book back in 2018 as being one of the original rules for Banana Ball. It said in the 9th inning with two outs, any hitter can come up to bat. It took six years to make it happen and we've adjusted the language...but I'm pumped to finally put this into play in 2024.

#MLB #baseballhistory #Blackplayers #leaderboards #meritocracy #levelplayingfield 'Baseball history will change forever Wednesday. Major League Baseball plans to officially incorporate Negro Leagues statistics into its record book, according to a person familiar with the plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity Tuesday night because MLB was planning an announcement for Wednesday morning. The move comes 3½ years after MLB said it would consider the Negro Leagues as major leagues, meaning all Negro leaguers would be considered major leaguers from that point forward. On Wednesday, the players from Negro Leagues in operation from 1920 to 1948 will be fully incorporated into MLB’s statistical record. Just one example: When looking up the highest career batting averages in MLB’s record book, the leader will be Josh Gibson, whose average of .372 in Negro Leagues play is higher than the .367 Ty Cobb posted to lead all MLB players. Incorporating Negro Leagues statistics into the MLB record book is an acknowledgment that, had Black players been allowed to compete with their White counterparts in MLB’s early decades, its leader boards would look very different. Still, because this is baseball, in which numbers foster spirited debate, the fix is likely to reinvigorate decades-old arguments about the greatest players of all time.'
