Founder, Be Infinite & Be Here | Empowering Marginalized Communities in Luxury Hair Industry | Advocate for Trauma-Informed Education
In the beauty and cosmetology realm, where creativity thrives and self-expression flourishes, an unsettling truth exists: systemic inequities persist within the education system. Despite the industry's reputation for innovation and artistry, aspiring professionals, particularly those from marginalized communities, face barriers to access and opportunity. The cosmetology education system itself embodies these inequities. Despite outward appearances of inclusivity, barriers and biases disproportionately affect BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those from low-income backgrounds. Access to quality education and training programs is limited, hindering the aspirations of many aspiring cosmetologists. Once enrolled, students from marginalized backgrounds encounter curriculum gaps and cultural insensitivity. Traditional education prioritizes Eurocentric standards, neglecting the diversity of hair textures, skin tones, and cultural practices. This leaves graduates ill-prepared for diverse clientele and industry complexities. Financial barriers exacerbate these challenges. Tuition fees, textbooks, and licensing requirements create financial strain, particularly for low-income students. At Be Here Salon, we're dedicated to addressing these issues. Our apprenticeship program prioritizes hands-on experience, mentorship, and support for individuals from all backgrounds. Additionally, we advocate for systemic change within the industry. Through collaboration, support for diversity initiatives, and amplification of underrepresented voices, we're working to create pathways for marginalized individuals to access quality education and training programs. By investing in diversity, equity, and inclusion, we strive to create a more just future for cosmetology education. Together, let's challenge the status quo, dismantle barriers, and build a beauty industry that celebrates the unique talents of every individual. #latinasinbeauty #CosmetologyEducation #BeautyIndustry #InclusivityInEducation #DiversityMatters #EquityInCosmetology #CosmetologyTraining #AccessToEducation #BreakingBarriers #EmpowerCosmetologists#FairEducation #InclusiveBeauty #CosmetologyApprenticeship #BIPOCBeauty #LGBTQ+Beauty #SocialJusticeInBeauty #texturevsrace

Elon Musk's perspectives, while influential, may not necessarily reflect the sentiments of all employees, especially those from equity deserving groups. And, as February approaches, so does an invaluable opportunity for organizations to reaffirm their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Black History Month is not just a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history but also a pivotal moment for workplaces to engage in meaningful conversations and learning experiences to help everyone contribute to workplaces where Black folks can thrive. At Bloom, we understand that fostering an inclusive environment goes beyond mere acknowledgment; it requires active participation and education. That's why we are proud to announce our dedication to Black History Month training initiatives, featuring three impactful sessions: 1️⃣ Systems of Oppression: This workshop is open to anyone wanting to learn intersectional and anti-oppressive practices that function to dismantle anti-Black racism. 2️⃣ Dismantling Anti-Black Racism: his workshop is designed specifically for non-Black folks (but is open to anyone) to deepen their understanding of anti-Black racism, how it manifests, and how to identify it within behaviours and systems. 3️⃣ Exploring the Intersections of Women, Race, and Work: This workshop provides folks with the tools to discuss the how and why surrounding the unique experiences of women of colour in the workplace. Additionally, we're excited to introduce an exclusive session tailored for our Black employees: ➡ [For Black Employees only] Navigating Microaggressions at Work: This brand-new session provides strategies and support for addressing and navigating microaggressions in the workplace, empowering our Black colleagues to thrive in an environment free from bias and discrimination. At Bloom, we believe that celebrating diversity isn't confined to a single month—it's an ongoing commitment. We have crafted context-specific training that leads to sustained action. I help women feeling stuck and unfulfilled ignite their inner spark and embrace a life of purpose and passion 💗 Certified Life Coach | Cheerleader You Didn't Know You Needed
"Our self-worth is our ceiling." - Jamie Kern Lima 💟 From serving tables at Denny's to pioneering a billion-dollar cosmetics empire, Jamie's journey is a testament to breaking through the self-imposed ceilings we often don't realize we've constructed. 💡 But how often do we assess the structure of our own (=inner) ceilings? How frequently do we dare to peek through the glass to the stars beyond, contemplating the vastness of our potential? Consider this: 🦉 When was the last time you challenged the ceiling you've constructed over your ambitions? 🦉 What if the only barrier to your next breakthrough is how you perceive yourself? 🦉 What dreams would you chase if you believed nothing was out of reach? While the concept of self-imposed ceilings is universal, it resonates deeply with women, who often face unique societal and cultural pressures that shape their self-perception and worth. Consider this: research shows that women typically apply for a job only when they meet 100% of the qualifications, whereas men apply even if they meet just 60%. This significant difference not only highlights a broader issue but also underscores the critical need for women to reassess and elevate their sense of self-worth. 📢 This is a call to every woman: LOOK UP. The ceiling you see is not just a barrier but a vision of the possibilities beyond it. 📍 I invite you to join me in redefining our worth, not by the jobs we've done or the failures we've encountered, but by the limitless potential we have yet to embrace. Let's challenge ourselves to break through our ceilings, to redefine them, not as the end of our journey, but as the beginning of the universe waiting to be explored. 💌 Feeling inspired to shatter your glass ceiling but unsure where to start? I would be honoured to join you on this journey. Whether it's a casual conversation or a coaching partnership, I am here to meet you where you are. 💬 DM me to start the conversation. #WomenCenteredCoaching #WomenEmpowerment #SelfWorth #BreakingCeilings #WomenInBusiness #Inspirational

e.l.f Beauty smashes it out of the park (again) - and has a go at the glass ceiling - with its new funny and seriously purposeful work "So Many Dicks" - produced with OBERLAND. The work, seen on digital screens in NY's subways, takes its name from a finding that there are 566 men named Richard, Rick or Dick on the boards of directors of U.S. based companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, compared to only 806 Black women, 774 Asian women and 283 Hispanic women amid nearly 37,000 board members. Importantly they adamantly practice what they preach (which some brands have spectacularly fallen foul of): "e.l.f. stands for every eye, lip and face–that means in our boardroom, too. Out of 4,200 publicly traded U.S. companies, e.l.f. is only 1 of 4 to have a board that is two-thirds women and one-third diverse. Not only that, we even have our very own “Dick” (Richard) who is e.l.f.ing amazing. Because it’s not about excluding anyone, it’s about including EVERYONE." We've seen a few (inevitable?) cultural misfires the last few weeks, but this one is bang on. Let's see if it leads to positive change and some good sales figures. #brands&culture #cmoinsights

📈✏️ "In our offices, we often hear, 'See how smartly she performs that task,' or 'Look how fast he is.' While these comments can be inspiring, they sometimes turn into comparisons that weigh us down. 🌟 But here's the truth: comparison kills creativity. Just like the pencils in the image—one saying, 'I'm not sharp enough,' and the other, 'I'm not colorful enough'—we each have our unique strengths. Every pencil has its place, whether it’s for sketching fine lines or adding vibrant hues. ✨🌈 Always keep doing your best and give your maximum effort. Don’t let comparisons make you feel low or guilty. We are all unique and blessed in our own ways. No two people are the same, no two lives are the same. We all have different upbringings, past experiences, and ways of seeing and reacting to things, and that’s natural and evident. Accept situations, people, and differences, and keep doing good unconditionally. When you have the power, do not discriminate against people based on caste, color, gender, or religion. Give equal opportunity and respect to all, and keep doing good unconditionally. Let’s celebrate our differences and draw a masterpiece together! Like different plants and trees in a park or garden. Let's learn it from mother Nature. Share your unique story in the comments. How have you turned your 'not enough' into something extraordinary? #CreativityUnleashed #BeYou #Inspiration #EqualityForAll #Motivation #Diversity #Respect #Inclusion #Unity #Empowerment #Authenticity #Growth #Positivity #Compassion

Property Management Business Owner | HR Strategist | FourBlock Career Readiness Instructor | +MPU SATX Brickyard Captain | SAHCC ABLDP 2023 I Veteran | Speaker
“it’s impossible to be a woman” I was reminded yesterday during our Real Property Management Women’s network meeting that I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by talented, driven and successful business women! When building the agenda for our meeting, I wanted to highlight the origins of women’s history month and share real life advice and experiences related to this year‘s theme of “Women, who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion.” After watching America Ferrera’s “It’s Impossible to be a Woman” monologue from the Barbie movie (if you haven’t watched it, click the link below!), we launched into a panel discussion. Heartfelt thanks to Elizabeth Gulick and Joni Wolfswinkel for being authentic and vulnerable on the panel. I appreciate their willingness to participate and provide tangible actions we can implement in daily life. They've inspired me both personally and professionally. Key takeaways: ⭐️ Be where your feet are at/ Be Here Now: Let go of the illusion of perfection and give yourself some grace. Focus on being in the moment with the people you are in the moment with. ⭐️ Advocate for others by calling out unconscious bias from a place of curiosity, like “I’m hearing a theme when we talk about Y and I wanted to us to check ourselves….” ⭐️ Fake it until you BECOME it. Be intentional and use your resources to educate yourself until you have become it. Seek out advice from peers and know you don’t have to solve every problem yourself. #smallbusinessownership #franchisebusinessowner #womenshistorymonth #herstory #womenempoweringwomen #RPM #RealPropertyManangement #neighborly Real Property Management First Class https://lnkd.in/deygHdzG

Welcome back to #PhilosophicalFridays! ✨ Today, our journey through the Grainger criteria takes us to Limb 3 of the test, as we unravel the intricacies of safeguarding religious and philosophical beliefs. In Limb 3, the focus shifts to whether a person's belief is worthy of respect in a democratic society. Here's what this entails: 1. Respect: Does the belief promote tolerance, inclusivity, and mutual respect within society? 2. Democratic Values: Does the belief align with fundamental democratic principles such as equality, freedom, and human rights? This limb serves as a crucial reflection of the broader societal context in which beliefs operate. It is not just about personal conviction, but also about how those beliefs interact and contribute to the fabric of society. Amidst the rapid evolution of societal norms, there arises a pertinent question: how do we strike a balance between preserving traditional beliefs and advancing progressive values? Equally, can deeply held beliefs that challenge prevailing norms still be deemed worthy of respect within the framework of a democratic society? These questions underscore the dynamic nature of belief systems and the ongoing dialogue surrounding the intersection of personal convictions and broader societal ideals. Stay tuned for next week's post, as we unpack the penultimate Grainger limb! 🔜 #EqualityAct #ReligiousFreedom #PhilosophicalFridays #PhilosophicalBeliefs
