David Putrino, PhD is definitely a researcher to watch! Our paths first crossed when he was helping to initiate the first US clinical trials for Synchron's #bci. And, now, he's helping to found a clinic for chronic infectious diseases, including #COVID and #lymedisease, where their goal is, incredibly, to never say, "there's nothing more we can do." Learn more about his perspectives in this insightful Ticktective podcast, produced by Bay Area Lyme Foundation. Kudos and much luck to this pioneer. And, if you have an interest in chronic infectious disease, skim through the #Ticktective library. https://lnkd.in/edE7Gx9b

🎙️ On #WorldParkinsonsDay, dive into the latest episode of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) podcast to find out how new tools are being developed to further understanding of new and emerging targets in this area of research. Nicole Polinski is Director of the MJFF’s Pre-clinical Tools and Models Program. In this episode of the MJFF’s podcast, Nicole talks about her role generating high quality, open access research tools and models for Parkinson's disease that address gaps in the field. “One of the rate-limiting steps in my position right now is hearing from the community. We have the space to continue to generate new tools, make tools more openly available, and characterize tools, but we just need to know which ones you want us to focus on.” If you work in this field and have a need for a research tool to advance your work, you can email tools@michaeljfox.org to suggest tools or share what your needs are. Listen to the episode here to find out more about the program: https://lnkd.in/eY_vFVqF Abcam has collaborated with the MJFF for over 10 years to bring the Parkinson’s research community the tools they need to progress their research. Over 50 products for Parkinson’s disease research have been produced as part of the MJFF-Abcam collaboration. Of these, 24 are RabMAb® rabbit monoclonals – market-leading antibodies due to the quality and reliability they offer. Find out more about the collaboration, here: https://lnkd.in/enWuT3_V

"Imagination precedes inspiration, inspiration precedes innovation" Last week, on the first episode of the North of Patient podcast, I had the privilege of chatting with Julian Bleecker from the Near Future Laboratory. Julian makes a clear case that in the absence of making room in an organization for imaginative thinking, you can't expect to have inspired teams that then go on to develop innovative solutions. "We tend to fetishize inspiration and innovation - but where does that inspiration come from?" Imagination and innovation are actually at opposite ends of the same continuum, with imagination being the subjective, the qualitative (e.g. imagine a better experience for someone with a new diagnosis of cancer during the interval period where they wait for their first treatment), and innovation being the objective, the tangible quantitative outcome (e.g. experiential scores for new cancer patients are improved by 75%). But beyond feeding innovation, imagination also has intangible benefits to morale - giving people the permission to imagine a better way for a health system to work gives them hope - something that is in short supply for those at the frontlines of healthcare. When I said Julian how you measure the success of design fiction (the use of imagination and building of artifacts to build a narrative of the future), he said "Does it put a smile on peoples faces?"
