One of the medieval battles known for its significant use of iron weapons is the Battle of Agincourt, which took place on October 25, 1415, during the Hundred Years' War between England and France. The English army, led by King Henry V, faced off against a much larger French force commanded by Charles d'Albret, Constable of France. The English army, consisting primarily of longbowmen supported by infantry and a small contingent of knights, utilized iron weapons such as longswords, daggers, and armor. However, the most iconic iron weapon used by the English forces at Agincourt was the longbow. The English longbowmen played a crucial role in the battle, unleashing volleys of arrows that devastated the French ranks. On the French side, while iron weapons were also prevalent, including swords, spears, and armor, the knights and men-at-arms relied heavily on cavalry charges and hand-to-hand combat. However, the muddy battlefield and the devastating barrage of English arrows proved challenging for the heavily armored French knights, leading to a decisive victory for the English despite being vastly outnumbered. The Battle of Agincourt is remembered for its strategic use of iron weapons, particularly the English longbow, which played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the conflict. #mylineage #armor #armour #europeanhistory #heraldry #militaryhistory #medievalwar #medievalhistory #medievaltimes #medievalworld #middleages #kinghenry #kingofengland #emperor #Barbarossa #crusades #charlemagne #westfrancia #kingedward #knights #HolyRomanEmpire #medievalarmor #warriorhistory #medieval #medievalchivalry #edwardtheblackprince #Kingdom #henryvi #medievalknight #coatofarms https://lnkd.in/g9t3Y-vi

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐚'𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 Journalist Aaron Gunn's latest & must-watch documentary unveils the shocking collapse of Canada's military under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership. Once a global military leader, Canada is now facing a deep crisis: 🇨🇦 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡: Canada played a crucial role in both World Wars, boasting the 5th largest army, 4th largest Air Force, and 3rd largest Navy by 1949, and was a founding member of NATO the same year. For 2024, Canada is ranked 27 for the annual GFP. 📉 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞: • Defense spending at only 1.29% of GDP in 2024-25, far from the NATO 2% of GDP guideline, fuelling criticism from American & European partners as well as isolation within the Alliance. • Half of the country’s military equipment is unavailable and unserviceable, with half of the Army's vehicles parked due to a lack of spare parts. Training is affected with soldiers lacking operational kit and equipment, and the Navy struggling to keep three elderly frigates at sea at once. • Aging fleets and outdated equipment across all branches are crippling readiness. • Canada's procurement system is plagued by excessive bureaucracy, making it difficult to enforce modernization. • Arctic defenses are severely lacking with only 300 men deployed over 4 million km² of strategic territory (40% of Canada's surface), while Russia and the US maintain respectively 30 000 & 22 000 personnel. • Recruitment is at a historic low with only 68,000 active personnel for 40M Canadians, and over 16,000 personnel below recruitment levels. 👥 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 & 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬: • Morale is plummeting due to understaffing, equipment shortages, and perceived governmental neglect. • Changes in military regulations, including uniform policies and diversity quotas, have not improved recruitment but instead alienated service members. 🆘 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝: Far from helping veterans, Canadian former military personnel are fighting a broken system just to receive the care they deserve as an estimated 7000 veterans are homeless. • Brock Blaszczyk, injured by an IED in Afghanistan in 2010, had his permanent disabilities recognized only last month, after 14 years of struggle. • Christine Gauthier, five-time Paralympic canoe champion, has waited six years for an approved elevator installation due to mobility issues. Forced to crawl up stairs, worsening her injuries, she was shockingly told by Veterans Affairs to consider medically-assisted death as an option. • The exact number of cases for proposition of medically-assisted death remains unclear beyond four confirmed incidents, but the issue has prompted policy reviews and heightened scrutiny of Veterans Affairs Canada's practices. #CanadianMilitary #VeteransAffairs #MilitaryCrisis #Canada #NationalSecurity #NATO #Defense
What is happening to Canada’s military? Defence budgets have been slashed. Equipment is falling apart. And the morale of our men and women in uniform is now at an all-time low. But how did we get here? And who’s to blame? 🤔 WATCH Forsaken Warriors: How Trudeau Broke Canada's Military 👉

There is increasing recognition within Israel it is facing an existential threat. Most of Israeli society feel that the Ultra-Orthodox Jews are not carrying their fair share of the burden in the war. That is they support the Supreme Court's decision to force Yeshiva students to enter military service, which they have never had to do before. We are literally seeing Israel at war with itself, its neighbours, and its strongest allies. I suspect this is not going to end well for Israel. https://lnkd.in/gkmJWdF4

Most wars are started by countries which are led by autocrats, who put their own interests and personal ambitions above the wishes of the people in the countries they lead. Liberal democracies can go to war too, of course, but they tend to be dragged into them, rather than be the instigators. I explain what I think are the reasons behind this in my book Doomed To Fail, which was written as a warning and a call to action to defend liberal democracies and capitalism. For all their messiness, compromises and indecisiveness, liberal democracies are infinitely better than any other option, and it's a tragedy that faith in democracy as a political framework has fallen to the current low levels in so many countries. Those of us who have the good fortune to live in a democracy should do everything in our power to defend it! https://lnkd.in/ekrqQXUy
Last weekend I visited Flanders and was gobsmacked by Tyne Cot at Passendale, which is the largest Commonwealth war grave cemetery with 11,954 young men buried in military formation 😲 Ironically the cemetery is built on top of a German pill box... There are over 200 Commonwealth cemeteries in the area which is mind blowing testament to the continuing futility of war 📈 20 million lost their lives in this conflict that was supposed to end all conflicts and then of course 4 times that number lost their lives in WW2 just 25 years later. Why?

More than two years into Russia's full scale invasion, Ukraine faces shortages of not only ammunition but also soldiers. In response, more Ukrainian women are enlisting in the armed forces, and girls are choosing to pursue training to become military officers. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, as of 2024, more than 43,000 women are serving in Ukraine's armed forces. While the majority still hold supporting roles, over 4,000 are fighting in the combat zone. Achieving true equality still requires considerable changes, but the harsh realities of war toughen everyone. Ukrainian women today are prepared to undertake difficult tasks both on the front lines and elsewhere to defend their country.

Read the introduction of Chris Kolenda's book, Zero-Sum Victory. This is the first piece of military scholarship I have approached. It's very well sourced and written, but very very dry. Think of an everyday round of fisticuffs: two people throw down. One person kicks the other person's ass and makes the defeated the victor's bitch. Apparently, this line of reasoning does not work so well for counterinsurgencies. Think Vietnam, Afghanistan, or Iraq. The book seems to be a comprehensive study of the subject, but us simple people should know: 1) War fighting is a military thing 2) War waging is a whole-of-government thing that includes nice things like ending wars We are good at 1 but suck at 2 for various reasons

Every American needs to ask him or herself, my cousins included, what kind of country do they want: a beacon of hope and freedom, or a new imperialist racist despotic colonialist regime spreading terror across the globe and lies at home. The US has always been torn between its natural almost predatory mercantilistic expansionist instincts, and it higher ideals of liberty and freedom for all and the many visions of a promising future for the whole planet guided by science, sheparded by the model American republic, ushering in a new age of peaceful coexistence for humanity, rather than high profits for weapons and arms manufacturers. The world has had enough, the US is at a critical juncture, now is the time to chose, and the real choice doesn’t rest with any political party but with the American individual who does have the power and can make a difference unlike us in the third world. America, you are part of this world not a god sitting in judgement of it, nor a pariah, you are part of this human tapestry, act like it, lead the world into a brighter future, take the courageous decisions to end the wars in Ukraine and Palestine in the only way that ensures a lasting peace, with justice as your guide above all, instead of special interests…

"Remeber Aaron Bushnell. He's not alone!" say US Veterans as they burn their military uniforms. This is a powerful statement and protest that I hope will spread amongst US military veterans and personnel. The event was organized by the group About Face: Veterans Against the War, a post-9/11 service member and veteran group working to end permanent war and the use of military weapons and tactics in communities across the country. Israel has trained many police departments in the US in the use of repressive tactics that it honed on Palestinian civilians. See Amnesty International's report titled "With Whom are Many U.S. Police Departments Training? With a Chronic Human Rights Violator – Israel" https://lnkd.in/gA667u-i
