In todays episode of “That’s Good Copy!”, I’d like to present Moosehead Breweries and their awesome credo. Over the weekend, I was watching “My Bloody Valentine”, a Canadian classic in the horror genre. There on the tables in the bar and during party scenes were bottles of Moosehead beer. Having never heard of Moosehead, and being a ‘beer guy’, I looked them up to see where I could purchase a six pack. It was there, front and center, that I came up on this glorious bit of copy. “Moosehead Canadian Lager is dedicated to those who have the courage to turn obstacles into opportunities and the passion that makes a hard day's work so rewarding.” In a few sentences, they place their product as a fitting reward for a hard days work. Images of relaxation, satisfaction and social gatherings come to mind. I love this copy because it eloquently speaks to real blue collar workers, and those who’ve turned tough times into thriving opportunities. What do you think? #innovation #digitalmarketing #technology #creativity

If you're heading to Traverse City, stop by Black Star Farms. In this interview with Sherri Campbell Fenton, she shares the history of Black Star Farms, what cool things they are doing to celebrate their 25th, and what new food and wine you need to try. My chief takeaway: Always go for the "experience" when dealing with customers. While it's easy to focus on the product, the experience is what is going to bring people back year after year. Founder of WINEWITHPOLLY Bespoke Wine Events, Experiences, & Education for Corporate & Private clients. WSET Certified Educator, Wine Judge. Freelance Wine Consultant
Words that JancisRobinson.com dislikes... and I have to agree... Witnessing the wisdom of Jancis at Women In Wine LDN at Vintners Hall on Tuesday night was a beautifully grounding experience. She maintains her position as a 'parasite' on the wine industry, having never directly worked in it, but as such reaps the benefit of a wider lens with which to view it. A bug-bear she raised was the use of overly flamboyant language used in tasting notes and wine lexicon (did you know the brain can only register about 4 flavours at a time?) Show-offy lists of flavours that serve mostly as an English language exercise, not a helpful piece on wine. She uses her knowledge to make wine more understandable, not less. Encourages us in the trade to 'assertive, not strident' in our views and communication, and most importantly, to be kind. What a gal. Her top picks, all too frequently seen in wine reviews or tasting notes, are these the most poncy words in wine today..? - CURATED - I'm sorry, do you work in a museum? - PASSION - possibly one of the most overused words of the decade, in every discipline. So easy to roll out with no qualification. In the words of someone wiser than me, true 'passion' is ORIGIN, MISSION, & VISION aligned and delivered. - SALINE - an upcoming replacement for the perennially difficult 'mineral'? - LIMITED EDITION - like every other wine is unlimited? - 'GENTLY' PRESSED - puhleease.. As wine correspondent for the FT for over 30 years, she is certainly a woman who can take the long view when it comes to how we communicate about wine. I hope she keeps her sensible, informed, no-nonsense style as long as they are lucky enough to have her. In her own words, 'When they ask me to move, I'll move'. No one is gonna be asking you to move, Jancis. #livinglegend #jancisrobinson #vintnershall #womeninwine #womeninwineLDN #languagebarrier

Although not many wineries, let alone Amercan companies, acheive the level of success as the Gallo Family and the time is right (yes, now) in the American market for many more serious winemaking success stories. As wine has barely scratched the surface of being a household daily beverage, many things have hindered its rise as a ‘go to’ drink of choice. The current generation of wine professionals is fast identifying many of those hinderances and it really is just matter of time……if and only if we (the wine industry) respond to these intuitive insights. Gallo has always been an example of leadership and being ahead of the game, always seeming to know where to be and what to get into and when to get out of what. Today, with the varied and powerful tools the average professional possesses to develop and market wine, there’s much less excuse for producing inferior product or adhering to ‘best practices’ in #dtc marketing and sales, etc. The ‘trick’, if you want to call it that, is the grueling hard work that is still the mainstay of achieving lofty goals….in anything. Again, Gallo has been a cornerstone of definition in grueling tenacity and persistence in work ethic. Carrying the flag of greatness is something that only great effort, strategy, and individual approach has and will still achieve, ever. For those who wish to impact the market with unique and value driven beverages, whether $10 or $100, value is driven by perception aligned with excellence. Stray off of this “law”, and what one visionary does to achieve goals, others with a lack of vision (or misconstrue ego with vision), will destroy what can be accomplished in the American wine industry in a fraction of the time it took to build something of value. There again, Gallo has excelled and shown how value, strategy, work ethic, vision, and timely market humility has led and is leading still the largest wine company in American history….and maybe for all time. Some have nipped at the heals, others have wished for success assuming short term efforts (less than one whole generation) can build a legacy brand or stay the course of ego-shedding family transitions to achieve greatness. The laws of history remain the same. Changing history and repeating history, for the good or the detrimental, is a matter of philosophy and Gallo seems to still be running on all cylinders, tuning up on the fly while the rest of the world stops in the pits, flies off course, self destructs, or never quite achieves a vision worthy of following. 🎤 #gametheory #techtalk4wine #winemakersforum #legacybrand
This weekend marks 90 years since our founders, Ernest & Julio Gallo, started a small wine company built on serving joy in the moments that matter. Cheers to 90 more!
