East Hants is also part of the 50 African Nova Scotian communities whose 400-year history have contributed to the province’s culture, history, and legacies. RVA was honoured to be part of a servicing capacity study for Municipality of East Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada that has created a 25-year future growth and development plan for the residential communities within East Hants. This study considered existing capacity, infrastructure conditions, and future demands. These measured impacts will align the past, present, and future to provide a successful capacity strategy until 2047. Lerwick Port Authority is taking the first steps in seeking consents for a series of new capital projects in the latest phase of developments planned for Shetland’s principal commercial harbour. Licence applications and scoping reports are being submitted to Marine Scotland to support consenting requirements following the Port Authority's board's recent approval of the plans. Board Chair, John Henderson, said: “These early-stage steps are in line with our long-established proactive approach to the port’s continuing evolution. The projects will benefit users across all sectors and sustain and encourage economic activity in Shetland.” The applications will be processed by Marine Scotland, a Scottish Government department, and will be in the public record for consultation rounds. Thames Water bidders day for £2.2bn reservoir scheme Thames Water is planning to hold an industry bidders day in March for its planned major reservoir project. Planned reservoir to south of Oxford, near Abingdon The Abingdon reservoir in Oxfordshire could cost up to £2.2bn to build and would supply water to 15m people across the South East. Consultants Arup and Binnies have already been appointed joint venture technical partners for the scheme and Costain has started clay compaction trials to understand the ground conditions at the site. This fieldwork programme will help to inform an application for development consent in 2026. If development consent is granted in 2028, construction is expected to start in 2029 for opening in 2040. At the event, Thames Water will update contractors and investors on the development of the reservoir, including the company’s commercial and procurement strategies for two large-scale future opportunities: Infrastructure Provider: The IP will be responsible for taking forward the design, building, and financing the majority of assets within the project. Main Works Contractor: To construct and commission under a target price contract, working initially with TW and then the IP. An invitation to tender for the key roles on the project will be issued in October this year. Mohit Farmah, head of procurement and supply chain at #ThamesWater, said: “We are excited to kick-start the year by getting the next stage of market engagement for our proposed reservoir underway. “Contractors and investors have a crucial role to play in informing our approach and helping drive this vital project forward. The massive canal gates in Parteen Weir are fully operated and maintained by the ESB over the last century. They are placed on the diversion to the headrace canal intake and can regulate or close the flow from the River Shannon into the headrace canal. The headrace canal intake has 3 intake openings of 25 m – gate weight - A 135 tonnes, B 145 tonnes and C 135 tonnes respectively which allows up to 34,000,000 tonnes of river water every 24 hours to pass through Ardnacrusha Power Station via the 12.6 km headrace generating enough green electricity for 46,000 homes across Ireland, the water is then returned to the old Shannon river via the 2.4 km tailrace once it has passed through the station. There is also a 10 m wide boat passage with a lock gate.
