A significant #milestone has been reached in the hybrid waffle research project, proudly supported by the Association of Consulting Structural Engineers Victoria (ACSEV), Foundation and Footing Society of Victoria (FFSV),SmartCrete CRC and Swinburne University of Technology The successful completion of #screwpile testing at Koo Wee Rup marks a major step forward in advancing our understanding of hybrid #waffle systems. As part of this groundbreaking initiative: *28 screw piles were installed at varying depths. *Each pile underwent rigorous compression and tension testing in accordance with AS 2159. *Following testing, all piles were meticulously exhumed for detailed evaluations of their structural performance under failure loads. *Comprehensive checking of welds, plates, and pile buckling was conducted to document critical findings. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our industry partners, including Foundation Technologies Australia, Madewell Products,Solidity - Your Helical Piling Partner and Richard Bacon, for their invaluable in-kind contributions. #50YearsOfReinforcedEarth - Revisiting the M27 Octavius Project The original Romsey Road overbridge had developed cracks and bearing failures, leading to its replacement. Instead of a full demolition, we designed the new structure around the existing abutment bases, using a mix of Reinforced Earth® techniques. By using discrete soil reinforcing strips, the design can be flexible and work around any obstructions in the backfill. This minimised waste, saved time, and reduced costs. Another Example of AG’s Vertica® Segmental Retaining Walling. In this particular job, our block has been used in the creation of a new 36-metre long bridge spanning the A379 in County Devon. Designed as a gateway feature, the structure will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the busy carriageway to access a new housing development, a local school and community facilities. Supporting both ends of the bridge, Vertica’s 4 degree block has been used throughout the striking four tiered design to create the abutments and wingwalls. This innovative approach offers a more cost-effective and sustainable solution compared to standard methods due to reduced geogrid and soil excavation requirements. The distinctive curved levels, ranging from 2m to 7.4m in height, feature impressive internal and external radiuses achieved through Vertica’s tapered design. https://lnkd.in/d5iV9_6s

👨🏫 The intricate world of #structuralengineering, lets explore the phenomenon of #shearwall overturning. 🔄 👷♂️ 🔄 Essentially, shearwalls is a vital components in resisting lateral loads such as wind and seismic forces, crucial for maintaining structural stability. However, when subjected to excessive lateral forces, shear walls can experience overturning, which is a rotational movement about its base, leading to potential instability. One critical consideration in addressing shearwall overturning is balancing the upward and downward forces created by the overturning moment through foundation design. This balance is essential for maintaining structural integrity and preventing foundation failure.
