CPC Virtual Roundtable: ESG, Social Value & the Purposeful Procurement of Consultancy Services Huge thanks to Peter Smith (author of “Procurement with Purpose”), with support from Darren Knowd MBA (Durham) MCIPS Knowd (Constellia’s Social Value Tsar), for running yesterday’s Roundtable focusing on how to buy “good” when buying consultancy. From the multiplicity of learnings, key takeaways were: • Align your ESG goals to your organisational objectives to achieve maximum stakeholder support • If you want innovative or “diverse” thinking from your consultants, then you should think about using diversity consultancies • Consider if there is an opportunity to ask consultants to copy lawyers and offer their expertise “pro bono” to worthy social groups • Procurement should practice what it preaches – including ensuring it drives its own diversity, especially in a category where relationships are critical (contact Saffron D. to find out more about her group, Black in Procurement) • Make meeting ESG standards a requirement for shortlisting a supplier at the start of a selection process – so that these standards can’t be sacrificed, in favour of more immediate organisational demands, in the final supplier selection If you’d be interested in finding out more about future CPC events, contact CPC@constellia.com.
