Father’s Day is nearly here (June 16th). Happy Father’s Day to all the dads! Keep in mind, these special days can be an especially difficult time if you have recently lost your dad or grandpa. It helps to have a plan for how you want to spend the day. 1. DO SOMETHING IN HIS MEMORY. What did he enjoy doing? Golfing? Fishing? Hiking? Watching baseball? If so play a round of golf (even if it’s just 9 holes), go fishing, take a hike or go to a baseball game, in his memory. Reflect on fond memories of him while doing this. 2. SHARE A SPECIAL MEAL AND MEMORIES: What was his favorite restaurant? Consider going there to order what he enjoyed. What was his favorite home- made dinner? Consider making that and sharing it with loved ones. Either way, make time to share fond memories of the great man you are missing today. 3. MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO A CAUSE IMPORTANT TO HIM: Think about an organization or cause near and dear to his heart and make a contribution in his memory. Maybe a charity he supported, somewhere he volunteered, or even the organization which most closely aligns with his cause of death. (i.e. heart attack- donate heart association). 4. VISIT THE CEMETERY IF THAT BRINGS YOU COMFORT. You can leave a card, a flower, or small monument or keepsake.. For those men who have lost a child or who yearn to be a dad and are still waiting, remember this is a tough day for them too. Reach out. You aren’t going to remind them or make them sad. They already remember and are sad. Most often, it means a lot when others, not only remember, but reach out as well. It can be as simple as a text like this: “thinking of you on this difficult day”. May Dads, on earth and in heaven, as well as men yearning for fatherhood, all be blessed with peace this Father’s Day.

From Crisis to Compassion: Leading with Heart in Times of Tragedy I remember vividly being early in my career, working for Head Start, when tragedy struck. A student lost their life in a devastating accident witnessed by classmates and teachers. Despite being on the job for less than six months, I was entrusted with spearheading the crisis protocol. My boss, recognizing my involvement in a grief group for three years prior, emphasized the importance of remembering the human aspect in such situations. She urged me to sit with the family, offering whatever support they needed, ensuring they knew Head Start stood with them. I became intimately involved with the family, providing comfort and assistance in any way possible. From creating molds of tiny handprints to offering ongoing support for over a year, the experience left an indelible mark on me. More than just a personal journey, this experience catalyzed meaningful change within Head Start. New grief policies and trauma-informed approaches were implemented, ensuring better support for families facing similar challenges in the future. Looking back, I realize how this experience not only changed me but also prepared me for the grief I would encounter later in life. It taught me the importance of compassion, empathy, and human connection in navigating difficult situations. As I embark on the next chapter of my career, I carry with me the lessons learned from this transformative experience. It's a reminder that, beyond the metrics and goals, true impact lies in the lives we touch and the relationships we nurture. #Nonprofit #Leadership #Empathy #GriefSupport

By raising your children in a way that you wish you were raised, you can break the cycle of hurt in your family. The speaker says that parents should focus on providing their children with the things they lacked in their own childhood, such as love, communication, and quality time. By doing this, parents can help their children and themselves heal from past hurts. #familymatters #familyengagement #parenttips #familydynamics
