A 'New York Times' article shared this week spotlights how the significant decline in #veteran #homelessness provides a model for tackling all homelessness. Specifically, #affordablehousing + case management/supportive services + sustained funding is a demonstrated solution to meaningfully reducing homelessness. We know what works - we just need more funding to scale these proven solutions. Learn more in our recent blog post on the topic: https://lnkd.in/eMD9HHrY.

VERY IMPORTANT 》On April 22, the Supreme Court is set to hear the case of Johnson v. Grants Pass, the most significant case in decades about homeless people’s rights. The case will determine whether cities can arrest or fine the homeless — even if there’s no other shelter. As the homeless plaintiffs wrote, this would be “punishing the city’s involuntarily homeless residents for their existence.” ---- I met Mark Horvath around 2009, shortly after he created the Invisible People project. He came to discuss the Abandoned In Detroit project I was conducting. The locations I was holding photoshoots were the spaces the homeless could be living. Each session conducted of my project I'd remind people to respect the residents, and the models, designers, other photographers, etc on the shoots were great. I myself had about 15 years of relocating with friends since losing my home in 2006. It was my grandfather's home, and losing my corporate job in 2004 set things in motion. I've had years I moved 3-4 times from place to place. So many possessions lost in those transitions. It changes your perspective on what you value. It also changes how you listen to the world around you. Mark shares a link in the comments of his post to be able to see the article behind the paywall. I had to use that because I'm currently unemployed and low on funds. Sometimes I get inquiries about photography work. I've not had a camera for a decade now. Criminalizing the homeless is the worst thing this country could do. It is more evidence of the ruling class holding a continuous #WarOnThePoor. #Homeless #DocumentingSociety #BadLawsNeedOverturned
