DID YOU KNOW? LGBTQ+ youth are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but are placed at higher risk because of societal mistreatment and stigma. Understanding this distinction is crucial. The increased risk for suicide among LGBTQ+ youth is not due to their identities, but the result of how they are treated by others. Stigma, discrimination, and lack of support can lead to feelings of isolation and despair. It's our responsibility to create inclusive and accepting environments at home, in schools, and in workplaces. By standing against discrimination and offering genuine support, we can significantly reduce the mental health risks faced by LGBTQ+ youth. Together, we can foster a society where all youth feel safe, valued, and supported. 🌈💖 #MentalHealthAwareness #LGBTQ #EndStigma #SupportAndLove #InclusiveCommunities #Pride

⚠️Multiple studies show that children who identify as LGBTQ+ are more likely to experience online sexual harm. Research published by Thorn last year found that: ➡️LGBTQ+ teens reported a greater reliance on online communities and spaces ➡️LGBTQ+ teens reported higher rates of experiences involving nudes and online sexual interactions ➡️Compared to other teens, cisgender non-hetero male teens reported higher rates of risky encounters and of attempting to handle unsafe situations alone ➡️Young people prefer to turn to offline relationships (caregivers and friends) when they feel unsafe. However, 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ teens would still rather handle a dangerous situation alone than seek help. We have a collective responsibility to raise awareness about the specific risks faced by LGBTQ+ individuals online, to address gaps in the response and create a safer digital environment for all. #EndExploitation #LGBTQ+Rights #DigitalSafety #SafeSpaces #OnlineSafety

💕🏳️🌈Recognizing #PrideMonth with Compassion and Care🏳️🌈💕 🔃It's no secret that #LGBTQ+ people face health disparities due to stigma, discrimination and violence over their lifetime. But researchers have begun to dive in to what happens to their health as a result of stigma as they grow older. 🆘Many LGBTQ+ older adults shy away from partaking in elder care services, or senior living communities for fear of not being welcomed. Being more at risk for healthcare disparities, social isolation, housing insecurity, mental health issues, and more, the need of an #AgingLifeCareProfessional to advocate and provide referral support could not be more evident. 🌈Inspire Care of CNY is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, feels respected, and heard. Nearly half of LGBTQ+ young adults face the heart-wrenching reality of being estranged from at least one family member. In fact, LGBTQ+ adults are twice as likely as their non-LGBTQ+ peers to report strained or distant relationships with immediate family. For many, the pressure to uphold a "family myth" or identity leads to painful rejections. Families may cast out those who don’t fit their narrative of what’s “acceptable,” leaving LGBTQ+ individuals to navigate their identity without the foundational support of loved ones. This estrangement is often rooted in misunderstanding, fear, and societal pressure. The toll it takes is profound, leaving deep emotional scars. Yet, in the face of rejection, many find strength in chosen family—those who offer love, acceptance, and support unconditionally. 💬 If you’ve experienced this type of estrangement, how have you found your way to healing? What advice would you give others facing a similar situation? #lgbt #lgbtq #siblingestrangement #familyestrangement #familyhealing #siblingrivalry #siblingrelationship #familydynamics #mentalhealth #emotionalhealing #emotionalhealth #selfacceptance #selfgrowth #selfcare

🌈 June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate love, identity, and the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. It's also a crucial time to acknowledge the challenges many LGBTQ+ young people face. This Pride Month, let's come together to uplift and protect our LGBTQ+ youth. Everyone deserves to live a life filled with hope, acceptance, and love. 💜 [PIC] #LGBTQ #LGBTQSuicidePrevention #Pride #PrideMonth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #Depressed #Depression #Suicidal #Anxious #Anxiety #Lonely #SuicidePrevention #Help #MentalHealthAwareness #Suicide #Pain #YouAreNotAlone #YouAreEnough

According to a recent survey conducted by the Williams Institute at UCLA Law School, approximately 4.5% of adults in the United States identify as LGBTQ+. This equates to roughly 11 million people in the country. Additionally, studies have shown that LGBTQ+ individuals are more likely to experience discrimination and face higher rates of mental health issues compared to their heterosexual counterparts. For example, LGBTQ+ youth are almost five times more likely to attempt suicide than their straight peers. It is crucial for society to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community by advocating for equal rights, providing resources and support, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and acceptance. By being informed and standing up against discrimination, we can help create a more equitable and inclusive world for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. #PrismLite #Pride #Allies #LGBTQ

We know that our community is built on resilience and strength, but this doesn't mean there aren't real and lasting impacts. Its OK to ask for help! 39% of LGBTQ+ elders have experienced suicidal ideation in their lifetime, and 31% of LGBTQ+ elders have symptoms of depression. This is 2 to 3 times higher than the general older adult population in the United States. hashtag #WeRefusetoBeInvisible #LGBTQAging #LGBTQ #NationalSuicidePreventionMonth But, we don't have to be another statistic - we can help each other. SAGECare offers various trainings that address factors that may contribute to one's depression or suicidal ideation. 🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏠 While significant strides have been made to support those who identify as LGBTQ+, youth are still disproportionately unhoused compared to their heterosexual, cisgender peers. In addition to increased housing insecurity of LGBTQ+ youth, LGBTQ+ adults may face housing discrimination, such as being charged higher rents, being shown fewer units, and getting harassed when trying to seek supportive services. Intersecting identities, such as race and sex, create even greater gaps in housing discrimination. 📌 Public housing authorities (PHAs) have an obligation to promote fair housing and can make a difference in the lives of their residents. By centering equity, PHAs may improve outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals. This Pride Month, let's advocate for equity-based solutions to housing discrimination for LGBTQ+ individuals. #PrideMonth2024 #HAIGroup #HAIGroupResearch #AffordableHousing #PublicHousing #Equity #LGBTQ+ #HousingEquality #FairHousing #EndDiscrimination
