Being LGBT+ doesn’t cause poor mental health. However, research shows that LGBT+ people are more likely to suffer from poor mental health. This is largely because of the different and intersecting challenges the LGBT+ community face in society. Bi erasure is the tendency to ignore or question the validity of bisexuality. This can come from both outside of and within LGBT+ communities and can have a huge impact on mental health and wellbeing. Hear from our Education and Wellbeing Specialist, Alice Hoddinott, about how bi-erasure can impact mental health and how we can combat it. https://bit.ly/4bVtFTK #SHW24 #AreYouFeelingIt

Ending Conversion Therapy: Mental health providers, let's delve into understanding the harmful practice of Conversion Therapy. This outdated and discredited approach aims to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity. By promoting harmful stereotypes and fostering shame, it poses serious risks to the mental well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. To truly support our clients, it's essential to recognize the severe impact this practice can have on their mental health. From increased rates of depression to heightened anxiety and even suicidal ideation, the consequences are alarming. Our commitment to #EndConversionTherapy is not just about rejecting this harmful practice but actively fostering affirming and supportive therapy environments. Let's stand united in advocating for #LGBTQAffirmativeCare and creating spaces that prioritize the mental well-being of all individuals. #MentalHealthProviders, education and awareness are the first steps toward creating meaningful change.
