I help individuals (especially Veterans) develop the ability to make informed, self-directed career decisions, and to conduct effective employment searches ... chrishogg_linkedin(at)yahoo.com
So, what's the job market like? It depends on who you ask and what the job is: For example, here are 2 notices I just saw: 1) "I am an HR Manager for [company name]. We work with commercial, industrial, and new-build apartment buildings, installing automation and controls for building monitoring systems, and also high- and low-voltage electrical wiring. You do not need to know anything or have any experience. We offer on the job training, starting at $19 per hour, more if you have related experience (especially high-voltage). This would be a great entry-level Job or a great career move for an experienced person. We have 4 openings in the [city] metropolitan area. If you are interested or know someone please contact me and we can set up an interview." 2) "In three weeks I have submitted 99 applications. I obtained 1 interview on-site, 1 phone interview, 4 replied stating they are moving on with other candidates, and the rest didn't even respond. I have a close friend who has submitted some 1,000 applications in the past 6 months and has received no interviews. We are both in the same field and have similar backgrounds." Are you (or were you recently) a job seeker? If so, what field are you in, what role are you (were you) seeking, and what's the job market like as you see it? #jobseeking #careerchanging #employment #work

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER | CONSTRUCTION |DESIGN, SITE EXECUTION, TESTING & COMMISIONING | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | KING SALMAN AIR BASE PROJECT, RIYADH
"Hey LinkedIn community, I'm sharing my frustration and seeking advice. Despite being a graduated electrical engineer with 8 years of experience, I've been continuously applying to job openings without receiving any responses. It's disheartening and confusing. I've: - Tailored my resume and cover letter to match job requirements - Networked and made connections in my industry - Applied to various roles that align with my skills and expertise Still, the silence is deafening. I'm starting to wonder if: - My application materials need improvement - I'm overlooking something in my job search strategy - The market is highly competitive If you've faced a similar experience or have advice to share, please comment below. Let's support each other in our career journeys! #jobsearch #electricalengineer #careeradvice #jobseeker"

Are you still searching for a job? As the General manager at MERROW ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING , I joined the HR team to embark on a recruitment process at the beginning of this year. It was very sad to witness certain unforgivable mistakes made by job applicants during the application process. I would like to share a few with you to serve as a guide as you hunt your new job. 1. The majority of the applicants sent their CV,s in a Word document. This is highly unacceptable. Your documents must be in a pdf format. Leaving your cv in Word format even distorts the entire structure of your cv. 2. Some applicants also sent their applications through email without saying a word. Really? just as attachment? this can't land you a job, my dear friend. Add the subject of the email, eg... Application for Marketing Manager role... and in the body, just type some few words, eg... please find attached my CV and cover letter for the marketing manager role.. 3. Applicants were unable to spell the role they were applying for correctly 😒. How?? you can not spell the role you are interested in correctly? then what's the assurance that you can do the job. Please let's not take this as a typo error 😅 ...... You are required to read through carefully before sending. 4. Most applicants had basic school (Jhs) details on their cv... who needs your jhs qualification? forget about that and state only your recent education or any training relevant to the role you are applying for. 5. Work Experience without the name of the institution, date, role, or function. How could you do this ?🤣 The work experience must contain the name of the institution, the duration you spent there, your role, and your achievements. A very big thanks to my lovely HR expert Ruth Nketiah for the wonderful contributions. Do you have more tips to help make job application a success? Please drop it in the comments section below. #jobhunt MERROW ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING #jobapplication #electrical #electronics #construction

# ATS reads resume.... The observation was funny 😅 but had meaning 😉.... In the elevator, a person asked me, "You are making money, bro?" I replied, "I didn't get you, sir." He said, "You are an HVAC technician, right?" I replied, "No, no.... It's a branding T-shirt." When I speak to people around me or on my professional network, the wisest advice they give is to customize my resume as per the requirement. This works for many applicants who apply for roles they have never experienced. The journey could be difficult for them as they have to do on-floor training and it takes time to groom them in that particular segment. On the other side, I see candidates with similar experience getting rejections showing them as overqualified for the position they are experts in, which could help bring productivity to the team. The game is in the hands of recruiters; they want to see "6 or 9". Genuine applicants are overlooked compared to smart candidates, but everything has an impact in the long run. #recruiters #hiring #resumewriting #resume #job #jobseekers #vacancy #rejection #candidate #opentowork #reference #bank #finance #insurance #productmanager #career #toronto #canada #networking #linkedin

Job Titles "What is the title of the position" is a common question I field- and it's a fair one. The larger an organization, the more weight the title carries. They can clearly define responsibilities, hierarchies, and pay bands. But in smaller organizations, they're flexible. A "Project Engineer" at a smaller company may have the same expertise & seniority as a "Senior Associate II" or "Electrical Engineer V" at a larger one. When interviewing with smaller firms, it'll serve you to approach the conversation with these nuances in-mind, and to ask questions appropriately. "What do you need me to be able to hit the ground running with?" "What skills would I be expected to develop with time, and what sort of runway would I have to develop them?" "What's the current makeup of the team, and where do you see me fitting in?" There's an inherent pro & con in working at a smaller firm where job descriptions come with a certain fluidity. The 'pro' is you get to wear many hats. Incidentally, so is the 'con'.
