The Southwestern Black Rhino is critically endangered - only 5,000 are alive in the wild. Horatius Group is proud to support the protection of these animals by training scouts with lessons learned in special operations and with resources earned from investment banking.

A common (perhaps almost too common) native mammal in Northern Illinois is the white-tailed deer, or Odocoileus virginianus. We have surely all seen these beautiful and somewhat destructive creatures running around natural spaces or even crossing roadways at times. In Illinois deer can easily exceed their carrying capacity—the number of living organisms an area can support indefinitely without degrading the environment. This is due to mild Illinois winters and the abundant food sources available, particularly in agricultural areas where deer have access to corn and soybeans. There are a variety of issues that come as a result of an overabundance of white-tailed deer. Please check out the article included to learn more about their impact and how management practices are being carried out. https://lnkd.in/gJ5sUUvF

🛑Unite to Protect Bream Bay 🐟 Over the weekend, hundreds of people gathered at Bream Bay to protest against the proposed sandmining that, if approved, could go on for the next 35 year. 🌱 Join the Movement – Send a Message Join the voices of those at Bream Bay and send a message to our decision makers: we will not let our moana be destroyed. https://lnkd.in/ghZgB7gr 🚨 Sandmining risks: • Sediment plumes that suffocate marine ecosystems • Destruction of vital breeding habitats • Collapse of kaimoana stocks • Further endangering at-risk species like the tara iti (our most endangered bird) and the Hawksbill turtle which has been seen in this area. #ProtectBreamBay #StopSandMining #SaveOurBeaches #EndangeredSpeciesNZ #OceanConservation 🌊🐢🐦

Earth Stewards, especially those of us in North America! In honor and reverence of Indigenous Peoples Day, and our ancestors, I write and share this message. First peoples & bison are inextricably linked! This is significant to note, as it was briefly mentioned in the introduction. The intentional mass slaughter of bison was a tactic of genocidal strategy to obliterate human beings! Let us keep the chronicles correct, in regards to the treatment of human beings, alongside this essentially vital wild animal. They are not, cannot be domesticated, in the manner bovine cattle animals have been. Bovine production is an unsustainable animal production system, period! Their grazing behavior and hooves tend to compress the topsoil’s “Soil Food Web”. The earthen soil must have capacity to breathe! Bison are cloven-hooved, and a keystone species for sustaining the environmental ecosystem. They allow the native flora to regenerate and flourish. Bison meat (not “Buffalo” misnomer) has less cholesterol and fat than beef, and is more easily digestible. May we continue to seek guidance, gifting, and governance by Great Spirit. May it be so! Up in the heartland of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Mimal Rangers are working hard to protect wildlife and Country from the threats of invasive species. Berrhno (Dalabon)(tall forests) and Mininyburr (Rembarrnga)(dry low woodlands) in Arnhem Land are home to unique plants and animals that rely on a healthy environment. Unfortunately, large hard hoofed feral herbivores in the area like buffalo, horses and donkeys can do a lot of damage to Country through trampling and eating native plants 🌿 This Mimal Land Management and CSIRO collaboration is getting more evidence of their impact so they can make the best management decisions, and also to increase capacity for the Mimal Rangers, which is why we love to see it! It’s critical that enough funding and support is given to Indigenous Rangers and IPAs so they can get more done for Country and Culture. Keep up the great work! 👍🏽 #indigenousrangers #environment #conservation #rangers #indigenous #firstnations #indigenousknowledge #traditionalknowledge #aboriginal #arnhemland

😃 Ants and Aphids Some ant species herd aphids in order to have a constant supply of honeydew that the aphids produce. In exchange, the aphids are protected by the ants from other insect predators. Some ant species farm aphids and other insects that feed on sap. The ants herd the aphids along the plant, protecting them from potential predators and moving them to prime locations for acquiring sap. The ants then stimulate the aphids to produce honeydew droplets by stroking them with their antennae. In this symbiotic relationship, the ants are provided with a constant food source, while the aphids receive protection and shelter. https://lnkd.in/dsDnY_gY 📷 Alex Wild

🔔 URGENT: Give a voice to the voiceless. If we don't act, the Swiss government will start the hunt on wolves, beavers, ibex, brown bears, lynx, otters, jackals & golden eagles. Reason? "Dangerous" "Damaging" "Conflict species" Reminder to all of us: We are not the only species on this planet with a right to exist. + We depend on functioning ecosystems that are only possible with those animals. Coexistence looks different. 👉 So what can you do? # 1 Get informed by Lucie Wuethrich & Antoinette Vermilye (she/her), who have detailed posts about the issue. # 2 If you are an NGO, sign Lucie Consultation (Link below). Today, because the deadline is tomorrow! # 3 Make noise. Europe has barely any bigger wildlife left. Any individual that we lose, is a further blow. As an individual you can also sign the petition, just added in the comments. Together, let's not look the other way. Speak up for those who can't. And act. #biodiversity #nature #wolf

Early detection is crucial in effectively dealing with bull ants, as their colonies multiply and can quickly overrun an area if left unchecked. Proper species identification is also essential, as various bull ants require different control methods.
