It felt like the month of May came and went in a flash! ✨ This is what we were up to at Horizon… 🌳 The volunteers at Panboola Wetlands were the worthy recipients of a Horizon Bank Community Grant and were able to install air conditioning & blinds in their shed office to allow it to be a more usable space throughout the seasons. They’ll now have the ability to hold new workshops, events & education in their space all year round. 🥫Our Moruya branch were a collection point for Anglicare’s Winter Pantry Appeal again this year, collecting non-perishable food to support vulnerable people in the local Moruya community. ⚽ Jess our Merimbula Branch Manager headed down to Wolumla Tigers Soccer Club for another Best on Ground event sponsored by Horizon! Jess & Howie the Horizon Bear helped 2EC present the football club with their Best on Ground cheque. 🐶 Our Albion Park branch team headed to the Albion Park Dog Show. The puppies all looked super cute in their Horizon merch and got all the pats! 🌟 Our Directors and Executive Management Team have been hard at work strategically planning a bright future for Horizon! There are some big goals & exciting initiatives in the works. ☀️ We closed out the month with yet another great Best on Ground event sponsored by Horizon. Robyn from our Merimbula branch headed down to Merimbula Grasshoppers Football Club on this sunny day with Howie the Horizon Bear to cheer on the kids. Let’s see what June has in store for us, we can’t wait! 👏🎉 #HorizonBank #HereForYouMay #CommunitySpirit

While no one was looking, Gr8Labor created a moving service revolution, blending high-quality service with community spirit 🎉. Today, Gr8Labor is one of Columbus’s premier moving companies, known for its commitment to excellence and community engagement 🌟. Here’s Gr8Labor’s story: Quick backstory: Gr8Labor grew up in the heart of Columbus, Ohio. From the beginning, they faced the challenge of standing out in a competitive market. The odds: To say Gr8Labor was setup for success from the beginning would be an overstatement. The odds of success for a small moving company are slim. And only a few make it to become a community favorite. The goal: But Gr8Labor had its sights set on becoming the go-to moving service for Columbus residents. And for years, they were relentless about providing top-notch service, supporting local events, and giving back to the community. The obstacle: Unfortunately, success turned out to be a lot harder than they originally imagined. From fierce competition to economic downturns, and logistical challenges, they almost chose to give up. The breakthrough: Until one day, their dedication to community involvement paid off. As the story goes, their participation in local events and support for charities endeared them to the community. And the rest is history. The achievement: Between 2015 and 2023, Gr8Labor went on to: Expand their services to include senior relocation and eco-friendly moving. Achieve a reputation for affordable rates and quick turnaround times. Earn the trust of countless loyal customers. Maybe most importantly, they became a pillar of the community. The lesson: I love Gr8Labor’s story because it represents the power of dedication and community spirit. It reminds us of the power of commitment, quality service, and community involvement, compounded over time. Because when we focus on the right things, where we’re headed is certain. We just need the future to catch up. Want to help end the #HomelessnessCrisis in the United States? My friends Rowan and Ken do, and they rode 3,500 miles from Los Angeles to Washington DC in an effort to do just that. And they are just getting started. Did I mention they are polar opposites in every way, especially politically? Doesn't matter. These two are proof that even in this divided, polarized environment, #together we can solve the problems we are no longer willing to accept. They know first-hand how to #GetStuffDone for the greater good, and currently run Hope the Mission, the largest mission in Southern California, making a difference for tens of thousands each and every day. Introducing 'The Ride,' a powerful documentary feature film, which is currently in post-production. The film follows the remarkable journey of Rowan & Ken as they embark on a 3,500-mile bicycle trek across America. Their mission: to explore the root causes of homelessness and engage with local communities, activists, and policymakers to find real-world #solutions. And they did. Together. Regardless of their opposing political views. THIS is America. We are reaching out to passionate individuals and forward-thinking brands to join us in this important endeavor. Your sponsorship will not only help us complete the film but also ensure the success of our impact campaign that includes a #NationalScreeningTour with built-in community-driven activations, making an #impact in every city that lasts. This is YOUR unique opportunity to be part of a movement that creates lasting social change and brings #EveryoneInside. The time for talking is over, as this crisis is exploding across our country in record numbers. It's time for #action. Below is a highlight reel of the film. Please watch. I promise you will be inspired instead of defeated. Whether you wish to host a screening in your city, or are interested in traditional financing partnerships, we are offering customary terms and ROI, providing a compelling investment opportunity with both financial and social returns. Will you help us #FinishTheRide? We are calling upon #IndividualDonors, #Sponsors and #Foundations to help us launch this film far and wide, knowing #StorytellingIsTheAnswer to break through the bubble of apathy. Please DM me for more details and to #GetInvolved! We CAN change the world...#together. https://lnkd.in/gidfH5hc Password: TheRide24 #HopeTheMission #TheRide #LetsDoThis #TheFutureIsHumane #StrongerTogether #UnitedWeRise

As we approach our 40th anniversary at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, we're putting the finishing touches on a 10-year strategic plan, set to be shared publicly later this year. This roadmap isn't just a nod to our past—it's a deliberate effort to position ourselves as stewards of a thriving, equitable southeast Michigan. The last four decades have seen profound changes globally. Cast your mind back to 1984, a time when the public internet and social media were non-existent, cell phones were a rarity, and business records were logged on paper. Today, we've weathered the storms of the COVID-19 pandemic, grappled with the climate crisis, and confronted the deep-rooted disparities in our society. These monumental shifts compel us to take stock of our current standing. Now is the opportune moment to ensure we're equipped with the right technologies, priorities, and strategies to guide our region toward a more promising future. You can read more about the plan on my latest post on the Community Foundation website. https://lnkd.in/eShJvRjG

Learn more about Choptank Arts & Culture Exchange!
Where is the Choptank Arts & Culture Exchange located? We are a nomadic, all-volunteer organization, so look for us at art openings, libraries, coffee shops, parks, festivals, and at pop-up events and info sessions that we’ll be sponsoring. Such an approach aligns with CACE’s goal to keep operating costs to a minimum (no mortgage, no rent) in order to maximize the impact of donor funds. www.choptankarts.org

Day 11 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: This can all feel overwhelming, even hopeless. How can we hold hope together? Overwhelmed. Disempowered. Scared. Angered. Denial. All these reactions can come up when facing such intense, unpredictable problems and violence with a perceived lack of tested solutions or necessary effort to try them – and are a part of why we have not managed to course-correct quickly and effectively enough. So how can we find and hold hope together? Over the coming days we share some of the places we are finding hope and we invite you to share yours. We’ll focus on: Examples from history Our societal capacities to meet the challenge The agency of all of us to role to play a critical role (which we know how to unlock) Full Plymouth Octopus(POP) narrative: https://buff.ly/4dQZbD1 POP learning and thinking: https://buff.ly/4fZAcPG Dark Matter Labs @Annette https://buff.ly/3YSF4Ac Sky Space Team Development Cic @Jen https://buff.ly/3yMsPK #BEMOREPLYMOUTH #fairer #greener #futurism #regenerativefutures #learning #sharednarrative #plymouth #systemconvening #community #grassroots #funding #grantmaking

Been thinking about the term “vision” this week as it relates to the strategic planning work I do with nonprofit clients. And what comes to mind for me (at least this week) is a rowing crew. Sharing a common purpose is inspiring and uplifting, but equally crucial is having a shared direction. Consider our nonprofit communities - all driven by the same mission to create positive change. However, achieving goals requires more than shared passion. We must also align on a shared destination, (or vision) for the not-so-distant future that can align our efforts and strategies, ensuring everyone is moving in the same direction. Just like a rowing crew that moves swiftly when every member is in sync, an organization thrives when every team member, volunteer, and supporter work together toward a common point on the horizon. Getting your community to row together, not just with a shared purpose but with a shared destination will help you actualize the future you want to create.

"The wave is coming, and too many rural places — as well as philanthropic funders, technical assistance partners and federal agencies — are currently overwhelmed and unprepared, as they have been for decades. As a result, there will be challenges unaddressed, opportunities missed and communities left behind. However, ships are being built, and if we can use this moment to catalyze, accelerate and sustain emerging regional rural ecosystems, then this can become a transformational moment for historically underserved rural and tribal places. Let’s look to the lessons of the past, finish building, and ride this wave to a better future."
