We offer our thanks to Psychedelic Health Equity Initiative, a Friend Sponsor of the 16th annual Horizons: Perspectives on Psychedelic conference on May 8-11 at the New York Academy of Medicine. The Psychedelic Health Equity Initiative (PHEI) strives to enhance the well-being of marginalized individuals by promoting equitable access to effective psychedelic medicines and therapies. Our mission is to develop tools for increased access to psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) in marginalized communities. Through our field map and database, we aim to boost visibility and connections among leaders and organizations driving the psychedelic health equity movement. We actively seek collaboration with community leaders, service providers, and organizations involved in PAT equity and access. Acknowledging that collaboration and learning are crucial, we recognize the value of engaging with diverse communities. Our primary objectives include identifying philanthropic investment opportunities to fund demonstration projects, encouraging broader support from governments, private sectors, and foundations for equitable access in marginalized communities. You can learn more about PHEI at https://lnkd.in/efhZ69PF. We hope that you will join us and PHEI in May at Horizons. Imagine this: Women make up 66% of Alzheimer’s patients and face higher risks for heart disease, yet only a small percentage of venture funding targets women’s health needs. The American Heart Association (AHA) aims to change that with its newly launched $75 million Go Red For Women Fund—an unprecedented investment in women’s cardiovascular and brain health. This fund will back innovations addressing heart disease, stroke, and other critical areas often overlooked in women’s health, including autoimmune disorders and menopause-related cardiovascular issues. At WHAM, we’re thrilled to see the AHA make such a bold commitment to women’s health equity. By investing in solutions tailored to women’s needs, we can bridge the gap in health outcomes and drive transformative change across the healthcare landscape. 🔗 Learn more about how AHA’s Go Red For Women Fund is helping to shape a healthier future for women: https://lnkd.in/ecA4qvbp #WomensHealth #HeartHealth #BrainHealth #HealthEquity #Innovation #WHAM

The American Heart Association and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation are investing $20M in community-driven research to address health inequities and enhance #inclusivity. Both organizations will fund four grants that will engage the people most impacted by health disparities, and developing solutions that may help improve their overall health and well-being. All projects bring together scientists and community leaders, like University Of California, San Diego and YMCA of the USA to engage underrepresented communities and developing effective health solutions. The projects cover: 1) Advancing food justice through partnered community-driven research, 2) Help for formerly incarcerated individuals to identify health and wellness barriers, 3) Assessing the impact of community-based research on chronic disease and health inequalities. 4) Enhancing community engagement and identifying effective solutions for heart disease and other health disparities in rural settings. This significant investment marks a crucial step towards advancing health equity and ensuring equitable health opportunities for all! According to Clinicaltrials.gov, there are less than 60 active research studies of Down syndrome. At DownSyndrome Achieves, our mission is to change that. Through our DSA Biobank at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, we help alleviate the administrative burdens of recruiting participants and collecting high-quality, well-annotated biosamples that researchers need so they can spend more time doing what they do best. In fact, we recently supported a first of its kind study on eye disease in people with DS funded by the the National Institutes of Health. If you are a researcher seeking to expand your knowledge and understanding of DS, we can help you, too. Learn how at: https://lnkd.in/eE_cqxc3 #nonprofit #research #health #downsyndrome #downsyndromeresearch __________ At DownSyndrome Achieves, our goal is to bring families and researchers closer together to develop better, more effective treatments that improve health outcomes for people with DS and their families.

In 2020, a team was brought together to start setting up the world’s largest health research programme, Our Future Health. In 2025, that vision has become a reality with over 2 million participants already having consented to take part in Our Future Health. Being part of that initial team at Our Future Health, as Chief Behavioural Scientist, was an incredible honour and privilege. 🙌 I am so proud of what we achieved together in the first few years of building Our Future Health. 🌟 And I am so excited to see how the Our Future Health team has rapidly grown, evolved, and continues to produce extraordinary work that will make such a difference in the world. Our Future Health is: 🌍 a collaboration between the public, charity and private sectors, and is funded by UK Research and Innovation, life sciences companies and charities; 🙋 recruiting up to 5 million adults from across the UK; 🧬 enabling much-needed research into improved disease prevention, earlier detection and treatments; and 📱 part of the rich tapestry of health research infrastructure and ecosystem making the UK an incredibly exciting place to conduct innovative health research today. 🆕 Now, the first academic publication is out, in Nature Medicine, describing key aspects of Our Future Health and the progress so far, and how you can get involved whether as a volunteer or researcher. Community-engaged research thrives on the inclusion of local voices. West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine's (WVSOM) Center for Rural and Community Health (CRCH) exemplifies this approach and has a wealth of experience building partnerships by addressing community needs, fostering relationships, and supporting community-led projects. In collaboration with WVSOM, the Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR) produced a fact sheet based on 2 WVSOM case studies that illustrate effective community-centered practices. "Spreading the word about these programs aligns perfectly with CEACR's mission to promote best practices in community-engaged research," said Emily Finley, M.P.H. One case study tells the story of how WVSOM CRCH offered its space, hosted task force meetings, and served as a connector for community resources in response to a deadly flood in West Virginia. By providing resources and actively responding to community needs, the WVSOM built a strong foundation of trust and reciprocity with community members, which can support future community-engaged research. This new fact sheet offers expert recommendations based on real-life experiences, guiding researchers in their community-engaged projects. In a recent interview on World Kindness Day, Dr. Antonio Giordano of the Sbarro Health Research Organization emphasized the essential role of kindness and empathy in the doctor-patient relationship. Amid rising tensions and violence in overcrowded emergency rooms, where healthcare providers and patients face unprecedented strain, Dr. Giordano called for renewed focus on compassionate communication. Italian hospitals are taking action with police presence and awareness campaigns to promote mutual respect and safety. Dr. Giordano advocates for targeted empathy training to equip healthcare workers with tools for listening actively, managing complex diagnoses, and offering emotional support in challenging moments. Families who feel abandoned by the healthcare system can also find resources through non-profits, social services, and trusted physicians, helping them access needed care and support. In fostering understanding and clear dialogue, healthcare environments can become safer and more humane for all Link for the blog: https://bit.ly/3AwAVZ1 Link for Italian blog: https://bit.ly/4eLQxpD www.drantoniogiordano.com | www.shro.org Antonio Giordano Sbarro Health Research Organization Temple University Università di Siena Temple University College of Science and Technology #WorldKindnessDay #EmpathyInHealthcare #DrAntonioGiordano #SbarroHealth #HealthcareSafety #MedicalEmpathy #KindnessMatters #HealthcareHumanity #PatientAdvocacy #CaringHealthcare #SupportForFamilies #HealthcareReform #BetterPatientCare #cellcycle #proliferation #stopcancer
