Embracing the Summer Term: A Beacon of Opportunities As the calendar flips to the warmer months, schools across the UK begin the summer term. This term is not just a countdown to the exam season and the summer holidays but a vibrant season brimming with opportunities for growth, learning, and enrichment. So what am I looking forward to? Celebrating Diversity and Creativity The summer term often hosts a plethora of events that celebrate the diverse talents within Shrewsbury's school’s community. From art exhibitions and music concerts to drama productions and talent shows, these occasions will allow pupils to express their creativity and showcase talent. Outdoor Learning The warmer weather also opens doors to outdoor learning opportunities. Outdoor week in June is one of my favourite weeks of the year. It enhances learning experiences, promotes physical and mental well-being through a connection with the environment. Our sports day and the Bumping races are also highlights, both fostering House spirit and healthy competition, with teachers playing an essential role in motivation and celebration Academic Milestones For many pupils, the summer term encapsulates significant academic milestones, including exams and progress assessments. It’s a season of hard work and perseverance, with teachers guiding pupils through revision strategies, offering support, and instilling confidence. This term serves as a crucial phase in preparing students for the next academic year, or for older students, the next steps in their educational journey or career path. Transition and Growth For all pupils, the summer term marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter. Transition and leavers’ celebrations are poignant milestones. Teachers have the honour of guiding individuals through these transitions, offering advice, and celebrating their achievements. So let's hope for warm weather and embrace this vibrant and dynamic term. Not every high school student has a clear vision of which direction their work life should take. Rachael and Chris attended the Eltham College Tertiary Expo last month talking about alternative post school options available to secondary school leavers. Whilst university options are widely discussed and shared as one of the options, talking about a variety of alternatives was enthusiastically received by young people struggling to decide what their next steps might be, and their families keen to support them. Many attendees were surprised to learn about the existence of BNLLEN and the diverse scope of our work. Families looking for ways to advise their young people unsure if university was for them were very appreciative of the alternative strategies we had to offer. The discussion extended beyond school-to-work programs; Rachael and Chris ensured that everyone was informed about our Nillumbik TAC L2P Program and highlighted how having a driver's licence can significantly enhance one's employability. The Extended Summer Break and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Birth Anniversary: The Impact on Education and Responsibility of Private School Associations. The Government of Sindh has declared an additional school holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai on 20th August, 2024. This decision, while intended to honor a significant cultural figure, has sparked considerable debate about its impact on education, particularly following an already prolonged summer break. Private school association should voice their concerns and take some serious action in response to this holiday. The Educational Disruption: The additional break, added to an already lengthy summer vacation, has led to a series of complications for the educational sector. Schools, which are often struggling to meet the academic requirements within a limited time frame, now face further interruptions. The cumulative effect of multiple breaks throughout the year can contribute to a widening gap in academic achievement, especially in regions where educational resources are already scarce, specially in Sindh. Private School Association: In light of these challenges, private school association should express their dissatisfaction with the government’s decision. These associations should argue that frequent and extended holidays undermine the educational process and negatively impact student. They should have emphasize that while cultural observances are important, the frequency and timing of such breaks need to be carefully balanced with academic priorities. Sum up: The crux of the issue lies in finding a balance between honoring cultural heritage and ensuring educational effectiveness. It’s essential for the government to collaborate with educational stakeholders to develop a calendar that accommodates both cultural observances and academic needs. Integrating cultural education into the curriculum or holding special events during school hours could be effective alternatives that provide meaningful recognition without disrupting academic progress. Wir setzen das Engagement der Robert Bosch Stiftung für eine Professionalisierung der #Pflege weiter fort: Zusammen mit der Agnes-Karll-Gesellschaft und dem DBfK - Deutscher Berufsverband für Pflegeberufe machen wir uns dafür stark, das Berufsbild der #Community #Health #Nurse (#CHN) in Deutschland zu etablieren. So wurden für mehrere #Hochschulen CHN-Masterstudiengänge konzipiert – und 2023 gab es bereits die ersten Absolvent:innen in „Community Health Nurse“! 🎓 CHNs sind akademisch qualifizierte #Pflegekräfte, die über klassische pflegerische Aufgaben hinaus Routineuntersuchungen durchführen, Bagatellerkrankungen behandeln, Therapien managen, Betroffene bei psychischen oder chronischen #Erkrankungen begleiten und darüber hinaus umfassend beraten und #Gesundheitskompetenz vermitteln. Das stärkt die so wichtige primäre #Gesundheitsversorgung und #Prävention. Damit CHNs ihr Potenzial voll entfalten können, müssen sich die gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen allerdings noch weiter ändern. In just over a month we are delighted to be welcoming students from across the world to Leading Education's second year of summer schools. After the great success at one centre last year we have expanded our reach with programmes running across two centres and catering to students aged 10-18. How have we made our programmes different? 1. Our Summer Teachers - All of them come from our tutor pool which we use year round for our online lessons. This means we can guarantee the quality of teaching we can deliver as we have worked with these tutors for an extended period. 2. Not Just for Summer - Every student that joins our summer programmes will receive year round support after leaving the camp. This ensures that progress is not lost when students return home. 3. The Locations - By using Plumpton College for our younger students, we have an incredibly wide range of activities on offer including wall climbing, animal care, e-sports, adventure activities and much more. For our older students, Lincare College (one of the Oxford University Colleges) provides the perfect backdrop for students. They get to experience the grand nature of a traditional college while staying in new build accommodation. 4. The Outcomes - On our EPQ bootcamp our students will be able to complete a full EPQ in 4-weeks, giving them half an A-level qualification.
