Russian forces once again targeted civilians, this time striking a geriatric institution in Sumy with a guided aerial bomb. 13 people have been injured, and one woman has tragically died. This tragedy could have been avoided. At OPD Fight For Right 🇺🇦, we have repeatedly called for the urgent evacuation of people with disabilities in institutions from frontline regions. For months, we’ve asked Sumy’s regional administration for a concrete evacuation plan. We were told that “plans exist” and that “no care facility is at immediate risk.” This is unacceptable. Since the full-scale invasion, only 353 people have been evacuated from care institutions, while 1,599 remain trapped in 12 facilities across the region. People in these institutions are deprived of their rights to make decisions about their own safety. The responsibility lies with authorities and institutional administrators. We demand immediate evacuation of all people with disabilities from institutions in frontline regions.
