🌟 Introducing the West Yorkshire Hospice Collaborative 🌟 As the West Yorkshire Hospice Collaborative, we unite ten hospices across the region to enhance and extend palliative and end-of-life care for our communities. Our Collaborative includes eight adult hospices and two children’s hospices. Seven hospices are independent charities - Forget Me Not Children's Hospice, The Kirkwood, Martin House Children's Hospice, Overgate Hospice, The Prince of Wales Hospice, St. Gemma's Hospice and Wakefield Hospice. The remaining three, Marie Curie UK Bradford, and Sue Ryder Wheatfields and Manorlands, are part of national organisations. We joined forces because we’re stronger together. 💙 Through collaboration, we’ve: ✅ Strengthened our financial resilience to provide high-quality, sustainable care. ✅ Focused on equitable access so no one is left behind. ✅ Built partnerships across health and care systems to ensure joined-up services. ✅ Become a collective voice for change, with recognised impact regionally and nationally. Was glad to have the chance to talk on BBC News about today’s plan of support for the Hospice sector, and to personally thank The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP and others responsible. More than aware of the incredibly tough climate both for public finances and for many exceptional UK charities. There are details to work through, but hospices feel heard and valued by a Secretary of State and a Government who have worked hard to find this way to support the UK’s children’s and adult hospice charities so early in their tenure. We must how repay that faith and work with our partners NHS England & Department of Health and Social Care on ensuring that the UK has the most equitable and best possible palliative care policy and services as part of the upcoming 10 year plan for the NHS

As the General Election approaches, we’re calling on all political parties in Westminster to stand behind the lifesaving work of air ambulance charities across the UK. Did you know that you may have local Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and party volunteers knock on your door to discuss why you should vote for them and their party?   By using our suggested doorstep campaigning toolkit, you can effectively highlight air ambulance key issues with local candidates right at your doorstep, if air ambulance charities are close to your heart. Our four key issues that you can discuss are:   1. Access to, and Safeguarding of, Hospital Helipads and Community Landing Sites We want to ensure that all new and existing Major Trauma Centres and specialist hospitals in the UK have 24/7 accessible on-site helipads. We are urging Local Planning Authorities to develop a specialised safeguarding process to protect hospital helipads. We are aiming to ensure that air ambulance charities are involved in planning discussions about hospital helipads and community landing sites.   2. Increased Demand and Increased Cost Air ambulance charities are experiencing greater demand and higher operational expenses. It is crucial that the next UK Government supports them in obtaining UK-wide grants and capital funding to help them meet the growing demand and costs.   3. Safe Access to Patient Data To support air ambulance charities to continue to improve patient care and outcomes, we want to make sure they have safe and secure access to NHS patient data.   4. Statutory Levy for Lotteries We want the next UK Government to agree to a zero rate of statutory levy on lotteries and advocate for the continuation of voluntary contribution - recognising the unique contributions lotteries make to charitable causes. You have the power to help air ambulance charities to save even more lives and remain at the forefront of pre-hospital care. Every voice counts in calling for action. 🏥 🚁 Air ambulance charities play a vital role in pre-hospital emergency care, but they face a significant challenge: limited access to patient data after the transfer to NHS services. This lack of information prevents them from fully understanding patient outcomes and limits their ability to provide optimal aftercare. We are urging the Government to support greater engagement and collaboration with NHS England to ensure air ambulance charities have secure and appropriate access to patient data. #PatientOutcomes #AirAmbulances

Hospices urgently need your help. Please write via email to your local MP to help protect St Helena Hospice. The recent Budget changes - such as increases to National Insurance and minimum wage - have created a financial black hole of over £385,000 for our hospice. This funding gap could devastate our ability to serve over 4,200 local people annually. The NHS and other public sector government bodies are protected from National Insurance because what they pay is reimbursed back from the Treasury. But currently there is no such protection for charities such as St Helena. This is why we’re asking you to help amplify our message by writing via email to your local MP, to remind them that their decisions have serious implications and urge them to rethink the choice to exclude hospices from the National Insurance exemption that the public sector receive. Lightning Fibre supports St Wilfrid's Hospice, Eastbourne to mark its seventh business anniversary. Eastbourne-based full fibre broadband provider Lightning Fibre has continued it's tradition of "paying for a day of nursing care" at local Hospice, St Wilfrid's, with a cheque for £400. The company also provides free broadband to the hospice's local charity shops. Rob Reaks presented the cheque to Dave Longman and commented, "We are proud to support St Wilfrid's Hospice, who do great work for our community." #FullFibreRocks #lightningfibre #fullfibrebroadband

Last week, I welcomed Ipswich MP Jack Abbott to East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) for a tour of our facilities at The Treehouse, followed by a discussion about our funding arrangements. During Jack's visit, I raised my concerns about the confusing distribution of this year's Children's Hospice Grant, which represents over 50% of EACH's statutory income. This key source of income, which should have been received in April, was not received until August – a disappointing delay in funding for a key service that provides care for families going through incredibly difficult times. The second, and related issue for all children's hospices in England is the lack of clarity around what grant will be available from 2025 onwards. This makes forward planning for some hospices very challenging. EACH is largely funded by an amazing community of people fundraising and supporting our large network of shops, collectively making up 85% of our income. If statutory income is to remain stagnant, it at least needs to be distributed in a fair, and timely manner. Jack has pledged to take this issue back to Westminster, and specifically raise it with Wes Streeting's team – my recommendation is that NHS England regains control of the central distribution of this grant to avoid further unnecessary hold ups and free up time to focus on what is most important; providing world class care to children, young people and families, where and when they need it most. #childrenshospicegrant #chg #hospice #funding

After nearly three years, the partnership between Morrisons and Together for Short Lives has concluded, raising over £10M! Since its inception in February 2022, this collaboration has played a crucial role in funding children's hospices like Acorns, with an incredible 215,685 hours of hospice care being provided nationwide.
