This program provides easier access to care and support for these patient populations; we are a bridge to ongoing care management, in coordination with the physician's office where the initial diagnosis is made. Did you know that despite the name "rare" disease (RD), there are between 263 to 446 million people worldwide living with a rare disease? That's a significant number, and it's not just the patients who are affected. When you factor in the impact on family members and caregivers, the number could be as high as 1.05-1.4 billion people globally. For those with #rarediseases, getting a correct diagnosis can be a long and frustrating process, often taking years and multiple visits to different doctors. This "diagnostic odyssey" can result in unnecessary tests and procedures, incorrect diagnoses, and delays in receiving the right care. But there is hope. Early life #pharmacogenomics #pgx testing can provide immediate benefits for many patients, and most will likely find benefit in the future. However, conscientious interpretation and management of these results are necessary to ensure actionable insights for all prescribing physicians throughout the patient's lifetime. As we look ahead to Rare Disease Day 2024, the theme is "#shareyourcolours," emphasizing the importance of collaboration and support for those with rare diseases. Let's come together to raise awareness, promote research, and provide better care for those living with RDs.
