We're excited to announce an addition to our fleet of Germ-Zapping Robots to include the world's first FDA authorized Germ-Zapping Robot – the LightStrike+, also known around our facility as "Nova." "Miller County Hospital is committed to evidence-based care, patient safety and the best possible outcomes for our patients," said Shawn Whittaker, CNO at Miller County Hospital. "When it comes to infection prevention, we have a comprehensive program in place that includes antibiotic stewardship, hand hygiene and education, to name just a few of our best practices. We added a LightStrike+ UV-C robot to our disinfection strategy because we want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to provide the cleanest possible environment for our patients and employees." This LightStrike+ UV device is the only whole room microbial reduction medical device authorized by the FDA to be marketed and distributed in the United States. As reported on Cleanroom Technology we have introduced EN 17430 testing for hand sanitisers. How does it differ from previous virucidal testing (EN 14476)? EN14476 evaluates efficacy in-vitro, while EN 17430 bridges the gap between laboratory tests and practical use. So, it not only substantiates virucidal efficacy claims, but also adds reassurance that the product works effectively in real-world scenarios - hugely important for settings where infection prevention is critical, like in hospitals, healthcare, and care facilities. That’s why we recommend all manufacturer and suppliers of hand sanitisers adopt testing to this new standard. https://lnkd.in/eAkaCE3g

Interested in reducing infection risk with cystoscopy? There's safety in numbers with PrimeSight flexible endoscopes with the EndoSheath® protective barrier. A recent study on cystoscopes used in 100 cases has shown promising results. After using the EndoSheath microbial barrier and following the recommended cleaning procedures, 100% passed the leak test and 100% of the microbiology samples showed a clean cystoscope following the company’s recommended cleaning procedures. The study reinforced the effectiveness of EndoSheath microbial barrier in reducing infection risk and ensuring patient safety. Clarifying Common Misconceptions: Asepsis vs. Sterility in Healthcare In the healthcare field, precision in language is as crucial as in practice. A common area of confusion lies in differentiating between 'asepsis' and 'sterility' – terms often used interchangeably but with distinct meanings. Asepsis refers to the absence of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms as much as possible. Aseptic techniques aim to prevent contamination by pathogens, especially during procedures like surgery or wound dressing. It's about maintaining an environment and practices that minimize the risk of infection. Sterility, on the other hand, is an absolute term. It means the complete absence of all forms of microbial life, achieved through sterilization processes like autoclaving. Sterile techniques are employed in environments where even the smallest risk of microbial presence cannot be tolerated, such as in operating theatres or during the preparation of sterile pharmaceutical products. As healthcare professionals, recognizing and implementing the correct practices based on whether asepsis or sterility is required, is fundamental to patient safety and effective infection control. Let’s share this knowledge to enhance our collective understanding and application of these crucial concepts in healthcare. #healthcareeducation #asepsis #sterility #infectioncontrol #patientsafety

If you manufacture or supply hand sanitising gels to the medical sector, we strongly recommend you test your products to the new Europe-wide standard EN17430. Introduced this spring, it takes a huge leap forward in the field of disinfectant efficacy testing by assessing products against viruses on subjects’ hands. Here’s how it’s different: ✳ Whereas previous virucidal testing (EN 14476) evaluates efficacy in-vitro, EN 17430 bridges the gap between laboratory tests and practical use. It simulates practical conditions to establish whether a hygienic hand rub reduces the release of virus contamination on hands when applied. ✳ This not only substantiates virucidal efficacy claims, but also adds reassurance that the product works effectively in real-world scenarios – hugely important for settings where infection prevention is critical, like in hospitals and healthcare facilities. We can help ensure your hand sanitiser’s claims are robust and meet all regulatory requirements. As well as EN 17430, we can also perform testing for standards EN 1500 and EN 1499.

Equity should be a central objective, and specific measures to expand access to antibiotics and balance their availability against misuse must be considered, ensuring access without excess. To fulfil this overarching goal, the following 5 elements should be considered: 1) Infection prevention and control 2) Antibiotic stewardship 3) Surveillance 4) Diagnostics 5) Global prioritization, coordination and long-term funding of R&D activities
