Every year from 27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. National Reconciliation Week’s theme for 2024, 'Now More Than Ever', is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must— continue. Arinex is working towards meaningful action to advance reconciliation, receiving endorsement from Reconciliation Australia on our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). It means a deeper connection with First Nations people in the planning and delivery of our clients’ events, further enhancing the cultural experience for attendees. Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week, a time for all of us to learn more about Australia's shared histories and cultures, and reflect on what we can each do to further the goal of reconciliation in Australia. The theme for this year is "Now More Than Ever" – a reminder that even in divisive moments we must not disengage, and that the fight for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continue.  At Challenge Community Services, we intend to help foster a community of shared values, goals and a common language in relation to reconciliation. With our Reconciliation Action Plan, our goal is to turn good intentions into positive actions that lower prejudice, increase pride in First Nations cultures, demonstrate support for First Nations staff and clients, and actively help to build higher trust with staff, clients and community. We embrace the importance of reconciliation and the significant role we can play in it and are committed to increasing opportunities and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities. As an organisation, we have a strong commitment to increasing opportunities and improving outcomes for First Nations individuals, families and communities. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) formulates the plan to take meaningful action and advance reconciliation. A revised approach in our RAP Governance Structure will see us continue to work together and make significant steps towards reconciliation through the continued development of an innovative RAP. Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week 2024, with this year's theme – 'Now More Than Ever' – serving as a crucial reminder to continue in our efforts towards reconciliation and enhancing the rights of First Nations people. We had the opportunity to speak with Cassandra Sheridan, a Yamatji woman living in Tharawal Country and AGL Aboriginal Engagement Officer, about the significance of National Reconciliation Week, her personal perspective, and how both organisations and individuals can make a meaningful impact on reconciliation. "This theme is more than just a symbolic gesture; it's a continuous, collective effort that demands immediate and sustained action. Everyone has a role to play in this journey towards true reconciliation," she explained. "Reconciliation begins with truth, healing, and a shared vision for our future, but it also requires action and tangible outcomes." Throughout the week, we’ll be hosting events at our sites and offices and engaging with our employees and First Nations people to educate and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of First Nations communities. #NationalReconciliationWeek #NowMoreThanEver #FirstNations
