🎶 On the ninth day of Sales Dev my prospects gave to me, Nine out-of-offices, Eight read receipts, Seven job changes, Six market intels, FIVE REFERRALS! Four tour guides, Three objections, Two no-shows, And a Meaningful Interaction 🎶 This one is ringing very true for most of us this time of year. "I'm sorry, I'm having a wonderful time while you're working. Hahahaha! Suck it!" Ok, so maybe that's what I read between the lines of what they actually say. Don't sleep on these in #salesdevelopment because they can be a treasure trove of intel! Oftentimes they give you the name, title and contact info of others in the org. Make sure you capture them all! They could be other targets for you to engage with. They usually tell you when you'll be back in the office. This is great because you know not to spend any time on them until then. Pro #SDR tip: Reach out to them their SECOND day back. If you reach out the first day, you will get lost in the clutter of their return. #Prospecting is like hunting and harvesting game. If you know how to do it properly, nothing will go to waste.

As a veteran, having a standard operating procedure on how to approach getting a job in tech sales is critical. The problem is, most veterans don't have one. Worse yet, they don't know where to get one. Wellllllll I don't know either.... good luck! hahaha jk Here it is: Step 1. DM me Step 2. Do what I say Everyone is different and in different stages so giving general advice sometimes is helpful but usually in the early stages of this transition most veterans need some specific advice that pertain to them and their situation. I have talked to hundreds of veterans and helped several of them land tech sales jobs just by giving them advice and them following it. Disclaimer: it might be uncomfortable what I ask you to do. Last week I hired Jaxxson onto our sales team. Yeah, you read that right. I call him "Jackson with an X" - the first Gen Z at our company. LinkedIn, I'm going to shoot you straight, I didn't have high expectations of Jackson with an X. After all, who wears ripped jeans and a Supreme flat-bill to their first day on the job? There have been several red flags since his hiring: - He uses his vape as a phone prop and pretends to talk to clients with it - He refuses to respond to anyone unless they refer to him as "The Rizzler". What? - When talking to a client he referred to me as Donny "Little Pee" Pappas But yesterday, he did something that I didn't expect. He impressed me. After looking into my sales team's commission numbers from last quarter, he shot a photo of them via email to the whole sales org with the hashtag #SquadGoals. I wasn't sure what to think at first. What does that even mean? But it soon caught on like wild fire. Even Richard from HR (a dinosaur) dropped by the sales floor and shouted "Squad Goals!". The team is BUZZING! Everyone on the floor is really running with this thing. Our week-over-week sales figures are up 70%. So before you go bashing Gen Z, or raise concerns with their ability to integrate with your team/company, I want to you to think about Jackson with an X. #ThoughtfulThursday First thing this morning ☀, before I had enough ☕ in my soul to function, I got a call from a #NY number. Immediate mom freak out-my daughter goes to #Syracuse so I answer. Nothing about her (internal sigh of relief 😓 )....#salesperson. He was polite and went into his #script. I could have hung up on him immediately....what he was selling was not in any way relevant to me and I definitely was not the right person at my company to reach out to. But I didn't. I was kind, I shared that I was not the right person and that we were not a good target 🎯 for his company and why. While I know we cannot answer or entertain EVERY sales call ☎ (yes even #sales and #businessdevelopment people understand this I promise 😂 ), I always try to make an effort to be kind. This was his job. It is my job....and I know what it feels like to hear "no" or be hung up on first thing in the morning. I hope it made his day better. So if you have a minute or two the next time someone calls you, remember they are doing their job. Having been out of the game for ~9 months, I still feel that twinge of excitement, anxiety, and overall sense of urgency this time of the month. Must be a Pavlovian response to that bell ringing… As the incredible Kristina Gudelis, MBA, AISM® used to say, it's #LWOM, and #LDOM, and it is ON!! There is money out there to be had. If you're working with someone, remember you've built a relationship with them and inspired them to trust and rely on you to help sell your solution internally. You've built a compelling business case and delivered value along the way (see Eric Shaver if you haven't). Don't be nervous about being direct; you've earned that right! Pro tip: As a former #DM, I had many things on my mind at month/quarter-end. Your paperwork might just be sitting on my desk waiting for a signature. If you've successfully done all the above, ask them to do you a solid: "Hey #decisionmaker #champion, I'm right on the cusp of hitting my quota, or whatever YOUR TRUTH is (never lie), and if you can find a minute, it would help me greatly if we could get this done today." Why would they do this? People want to help people they like and want them to be successful. All they can say is no. Bonus: it's also a great way to re-qualify whether your deal is real or not. #closing #saleswarriors #endofmonth #hunters #askfortheorder

Job hunting isn't easy, especially for any #SDR out there (and even more so aspiring #BDR) You have to deal with: - a bunch of rejection - no responses from places you apply or people you reach out - being turned away often with no explanation of why - a constant flow of activity to try to get hired in timely manner - the challenges life throws at you in the process Hang in there cause the grit and resolve to get an SDR role is just another reason why you'd make a good candidate. There is hope though! Best part of this space and for many xDR teams out there (or the ones ran best) is that it is collaborative, supportive, and involves a lot of team work. So feel free to reach out if you are struggling or need help, to myself, SDRs, BDR leaders, and the community out there because people are willing to help at what ever capacity they can!

Rejection is an enormous part of a salesperson’s job. That's just the way it is. The reality of sales is: Prospects ghosting you. Rude people when you cold call. People not doing what they said they'd do. Losing a deal you were certain you’d win. Sending the perfect cold email and not getting a response. How do you deal with rejection? Adopt a surfer’s mind. Surfers don’t feel rejected when they crash into a wave. Crashing and riding waves are all part of the same experience. Waves just are. Surfers ride waves, they don’t try to control waves. They go where the wave takes them. It's the same in sales. If something undesirable happens drop back and say, “My desire is not only to solve problems but to remain in harmony with the reality of sales.” Let reality be reality. Your other option is to quit and say, “I can't take all this rejection.”
