Responding to rising crime, Chicago's civic leaders, including Hyatt Hotels, have stepped up efforts to curb violence through a $66M 'Scaling Community Violence Intervention' campaign. With backing from the Pritzker Foundation and Crown Family, the initiative is set to enhance existing grassroots programs over the next decade. The hospitality industry has a vested interest in supporting safer cities. As demonstrated by Hyatt, businesses can make an impact through social responsibility efforts addressing localized needs. Wise investors seeking a return on investment (ROI) understand that community health is directly tied to economic health. Collaborative efforts like these underscore the power of public-private partnerships to drive progressive change. Chicago sets an example for other cities struggling with violence, encouraging them to pursue coordinated action plans backed by unified funding. #socialimpact #csr #community

In my journey through the Community Renewal International Experience, I've been captivated by the #profound impact of their initiatives on community transformation. Continuing with our week's focus on #SystemsOrchestrators, today's highlight is the remarkable work of the Community Renewal Team. 🌍🌿 The Renewal Team's mission is profound: to #identify, #align, and #mobilize caring individuals across communities. They're the backbone of a movement that shifts societal focus towards positive, actionable care. At speaking events in churches, businesses, and civic groups, they ignite the "We Care Movement," transforming community self-image through visible acts of kindness. 🌏💡 In 2018, CRI volunteers, contributing an astonishing 39,389 minutes, provided an in-kind value worth $976,847! This statistic is a powerful testament to the immense impact of volunteerism, a core element of the Renewal Team's strategy. They demonstrate how volunteer efforts can lay the groundwork for a robust system of relationships, the very essence of a caring community. 🤲🌱 Today, I'm celebrating Sharpel Welch, EDD, MBA, the Director of the Renewal Team. Sharpel's journey from an Army veteran and educator to her pivotal role in #CRI exemplifies the essence of a Systems Orchestrator. Her approach - "What do you have?" in response to "What do you need?" - reflects a mindset of #resourcefulness and community #empowerment. 👩🏫🔗 Sharpel's leadership has propelled the Renewal Team to new heights, crafting a culture of caring that permeates the Shreveport-Bossier region. It's a culture where every act of #kindness is a building block towards a united and #resilient community. 🏘️🤗 But it's more than just mobilizing volunteers; it's about discovering and nurturing Systems Orchestrators within the community. People like Sharpel, who started as a #volunteer and now guide others, demonstrate how local leadership can foster #sustainable, community-led development. 🌍🌿 Join me tomorrow as we continue to explore the Community Renewal International model and its remarkable #impact. Each day is a new chapter in understanding how collective impact and Systems Orchestrators can reshape our communities for the better. Stay tuned! 💫🌈 Check out Community Renewal International's work and see how you can support their mission: https://lnkd.in/ewSEm3qv #CommunityRenewal #SystemsOrchestrators #CommunityImpact #Volunteerism #CollectiveImpact #KilimoCollective #CommunityRenewalInternational #ValueOfVolunteers

Developing a culture of community is a process of continuous evolution, a journey where we need to remain conscious of how we show up, what we learn, and how we can serve the greater good. Every day, we’re faced with the opportunity to show up more authentically, to learn more deeply, and to serve more fully. And as we embrace this practice, we also embrace the understanding that trust—both in ourselves and in the collective—is at the heart of it all💚 For me, embracing community means recognizing that we’re all in this together, each bringing our unique gifts and perspectives. 🤝 It’s through this shared commitment to growth that we build something truly resilient and regenerative. 💬How do you and your community navigate the challenges of collective evolution? For those of you who don't know, I have other passions outside of accounting! One of those is Templeogue United. My connection started as an eager 5-year-old who thought he would one day play for Ireland and Manchester United... we all need to dream. I was fortunate enough to be elected as Chair of the Club's Executive Committee in 2021 after being on the committee since 2013. We embarked on an audacious project in late 2020 to complete a full refurbishment of the ground floor of our existing clubhouse and are now just a few months away from completion. This project would not be possible without the help and support of the following: 1. The Volunteers: The many volunteers who keep our club running and provide happiness (and some sadness!) to approximately 600 boys and girls every week. These volunteers often double up as coaches, players, committee members, and fundraisers. 2. The Parents: The parents who make a big effort to get their kids to training, matches, and camps throughout the year. We rely on the yearly subscriptions to support the club's costs, and we wouldn't be able to survive without the timely receipt of these amounts. On this topic, we extend our gratitude to ClubZap, who have transformed the administrative process of registering players. 3. Sponsors and Financial Institutions: Our goal is to provide best-in-class facilities to our members and the wider community. To do this, we rely on the support of many sponsors. From sponsoring new kits to funding trips away, the generosity of certain people knows no bounds. We have too many sponsors to mention, but thank you all! For such a big project like the clubhouse refurbishment, we still needed more, and this is where our partnership with Heritage Credit Union Dublin became a priority. Their help and support have been invaluable. Special thanks to Alan Roche and Niall Manning QFA PB. We share a common goal, community engagement! 4. Grant support: We received a grant through the Sports Capital Programme, which would not have been possible without the support of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, the Football Association of Ireland, South Dublin County Council, and the various TDs and councillors who supported our application. Finally, it would be remiss of me not to include a plug for a major fundraiser that we are running to assist with the cost of delivering this project. We will run a raffle with over €60k in prizes, with the 1st prize being a new Ford Puma. Please buy a ticket and support this project 🙏 Link to our website - https://lnkd.in/eMxBQGVa #templeogueunited #CommunityDevelopment #volunteers #grassrootsfootball #fai #sdcc The National Lottery Party City Stuart Fagan Chris Pratt Andy McNulty Keith McDonald

In 1996, #TowardsZeroSuicide CIC Founder Paul Vittles was handed an assignment which became his most 'famous' project. Paul was asked to design & deliver the #CommunityEngagement exercise to decide what to do with the site of 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester... ...the 'House of Horrors', the former home of the serial killers Fred & Rosemary West, the place where 9 young women had been brutally assaulted, murdered & buried. Although this was a unique assignment, Paul approached it as he would any community engagement or #StakeholderEngagement project, but it was different in a number of respects. > Preparation This meant reading about what the Wests had done. > Site Visit Seeing the site of such horrors was chilling. Seeing that there was a church next door was challenging. As was seeing a busload of Japanese tourists getting off to take photos! > Media Conference The room was packed to bursting with more than 300 attending, inc from several countries around the world. > First Phase Scoping with 'Key Core Stakeholders' Paul met with all the victims' families to fully understand their wishes, inc which options for the site should be considered or ruled out, and any issues they wanted the wider engagement exercise to cover. > Engaging with Cromwell Street Residents This was a collectively traumatised community. More important than ever to hear from as many local residents as possible. Paul and his team met with 75% of them. > Media Management Stories would start running, eg about turning 25 Cromwell Street into 'Fred's Bar' or creating 'a memorial garden', that had no basis in truth and which upset the victims' families. > Staff Welfare & Wellbeing Paul would always think about the wellbeing of his team - his company was the first in its sector to get Investors in People accreditation - but this was a highly unusual project. There were regular de-briefings & check-ins. > Listening In every project Paul had done to date, listening - deep, empathic listening - had been at its heart, as it must be. But here, it reached new levels. Paul was not a trained, qualified, professional counsellor back then (he is now) but he learned to listen more deeply than ever before. Some of his meetings with the victims' families lasted several hours and, in two cases, several days. It had to be done to get 'resolution', plus it was 'the right thing to do'. In a particularly heartbreaking moment, one grieving mum revealed to Paul that she didn't have enough money for a gravestone so her daughter had effectively "been moved from one unmarked grave to another". Paul spoke with the highly compassionate Detective Superintendent John Bennett from Gloucestershire Police. John got this sorted immediately. You can read more details about Paul's 'most famous assignment' here... https://lnkd.in/e9QvmZT9

A peek inside our impact report, “Two Decades of Community-Driven Transformation,” courtesy of Shift Collaborative , the talented agency behind its design. For over 40 years, ELDI has worked in collaboration with neighborhood stakeholders in the areas of planning, advocacy, facilitation, and investment to bring positive change in the East Liberty community. In 2021, we reached out to Shift to build a 20-year report that would showcase the impact of our work, including both the successes and lessons learned. The core of the report explains our process of PAFI—Plan, Advocate, Facilitate, and Invest—with the intention that other community development organizations can use this report as a guide for their own neighborhoods. One super cool feature is a gatefold map that was created for the center of the report to help readers understand the amount of growth we have facilitated over the past few decades, both commercially and residentially. The report concludes with several topics, including impact on the community, lessons learned throughout the years, viewpoints from legacy businesses that have been in operation for decades, and finally, what the future holds for East Liberty. ➡️ Click the link in the caption to explore it for yourself. #communitydevelopment #pittsburgh #cdc #neighborhoodrevitalization
