Here’s our Head of Business Vaughan Matthews looking very happy to be talking to the Minister of Police @Mark Mitchell, the Next Generation Critical Communications Lead Entity Board, and Tait Communications, along with visitors from the emergency services about Hourua’s Cellular services for the Public Safety Network in Christchurch recently. You might be able to see behind Vaughan the numbers for the first year of Roaming operations – as of July 2024 there were 14,700 roaming users who have used roaming on 510,000 occasions across the four Public Safety Network agencies. And numbers continue to grow! Vaughan also updated on the delivery of Public Safety Network Cellular Priority which is progressing well, and the development of several other important services for New Zealand’s first responders. It was interesting to hear about the development of the new Public Safety Network Land Mobile Radio network, which the Cellular services complement. Many thanks to NGCC and Tait Communications for hosting the Public Safety Network Showcase.

Listening to people talk about the world that they want is one of the most amazing parts of my job. When you ask "What should be?" you're asking people to commit to something, even if just for that moment. This year I asked "What should the purpose of the public service be and who should it serve?" Have a read of our latest discussion paper to find out what people said.
A public service that is Wise, Warm and Willing? Yes please! In 2024 we began asking people “what should the purpose of the public service be, and who should it serve?” We heard that people want a public service that: ♥️ cares for people and place by creating contexts for communities to thrive in, understanding and preempting challenges, meeting individual needs and acting as a safety net during individual or collective crises. ♥️ acts as an enabler for people to participate in their own democracy by ensuring transparency of process, trusting the expertise present in communities and enabling communities to care for each other and themselves. In essence, we collectively imagined a public service that is Wise, Warm and Willing. It’s exciting stuff and the time for this thinking is now. Have a read - https://lnkd.in/gxRMFyXA

Annual NPSTW Reminder: on the eve of National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, a gentle reminder to leverage the attention and joy of next week to connect with stakeholders and your community. Goodies and treats are nice (who does not love cake?) but getting attention for issues like staffing and retention; reclassification; and just general awareness of the critical role played by those under the headset is invaluable! So, be sure to invite the fire/police/ems chiefs, city council people, county commissioners, mayors and other community leaders to come have a piece of cake with your personnel. Give them the tour. Have them start to understand what your folks do. Take photos, post them on aocial media and tag them with some words of appreciation. Thats one of the best ways we have to move the industry forward and get things even better than cake!

"Nextdoor is an Essential Social Media Platform for Emergency Managers," wrote Dan Stoneking, the former Deputy Director of Public Affairs at FEMA and founder and Vice President of the Emergency Management External Affairs Association (EMEAA). We could not agree more! Why Nextdoor? 🙋 Engage a built-in high-intent audience that you're likely not reaching on other social channels 🎯 Geo-target messages and engage more people in the neighborhoods and service areas (flood and EPZ zones, etc) where the message matters most 📈 Instruct and encourage neighbors on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster safely and measure indicators of behavioral change If you don't have a free Nextdoor government page for your department, start here → https://lnkd.in/eERcXQ9e https://lnkd.in/eaQJHN5h

🚨 Exciting news from Pennsylvania! NBC News' Kate Snow reported that Emergency call centers in the state are embracing cutting-edge technology, now allowing citizens to share live video with #dispatchers during 911 calls. it's evident that in the recent years, #advancedtechnologies have rapidly developed in the private sector. However, public services and citizen access to common goods have lagged behind in today's competitive landscape. Let's take the example of #videocalls. While we can use video calls for connecting with family and friends, interacting with colleagues, participating in #seminars, #conferences, lessons, #meetings, and even for #entertainment, the same level of technological advancement is not seen when it comes to fundamental citizen rights such as access to #healthservices, guaranteeing #safetyandsecurity, and protecting the environment by reporting fires to the fire brigades. This limitation is evident in the form of being limited to SOS voice calls, which come with language, health, and distance barriers but by investing in the public sector, promoting #competition, and enabling access to common goods, we can safeguard both lives and the #environment. It's great to see tangible improvements in Emergency Supply Chains finally! Let's ensure that advanced technologies are used for the greater good! #EmergencyTechnology #EmergencyResponse #PublicSafety #Innovation #EmergencyVideoCall #SOSVideoCall #EmergencySupplyChain #SavingLives #TechnologyForGood #FirstResponder #Dispatcher #Centralist #CommunityEngagement #EnvironmentalProtection #SDG https://lnkd.in/dmQXaZEy Further References: https://lnkd.in/d4mcfuw7 https://lnkd.in/dJUYbsem

The National Domestic Violence Hotline and CTIA commend the FCC’s recent action to enhance the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system, which will aid missing and endangered persons. Wireless providers understand how crucial these life-saving messages are, including in Tribal communities, and for survivors of domestic violence and their families, these messages are pivotal. This enhanced system will provide an additional layer of security and support, helping to protect those in vulnerable situations. 📢 Read more on the joint statement: https://bit.ly/3LSLqYC 👉 For more information on FCC's new alert code: https://bit.ly/3WVRBBA
