*Arise Catholic Faithful: Sustaining the Fight Against Galamsey* Our Environmental Prayer Walk Against Galamsey was just the beginning. We must persist in our efforts to protect our Common Home, guided by Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si'. 1. Galamsey destroys our water bodies, forests, and ecosystems. 2. Our health and well-being are threatened by galamsey's toxic consequences. 3. Sustainable livelihoods and economic growth require environmental protection. 4. We are stewards of God's creation; let's protect our Common Home. *Continued Actions:* 1. Let us continue to pray for conversion, wisdom, and courage to address the galamsey menace. 2. Create awareness on the devastating effects of galamsey. 3. Engage in social media campaigns to amplify the message and build a broader coalition against galamsey. Reflection: Transforming Cities of Blood By John Tillman “Woe to the city of blood,” Nahum says. God is often described as a vineyard owner or farmer, but God also loves cities. Cities can produce life, industry, and creativity, and can bless the surrounding country. Instead, Nineveh is built on blood. The great cities of humanity throughout the scripture (Babylon and Nineveh are archetypes) are symbols of human rebellion. Cities in their mold run counter to our divine vocation. One false narrative says that big cities are always evil and “small towns” are always good…Big doesn’t equal malevolent and small doesn’t equal benevolent. A city with a population under 1,000 can be a city of blood as easily as one with millions of citizens. Do we live in “cities of blood?” …no matter if you plant a city or a garden, God judges it by its fruit. Whether in the city or in the countryside, God loves cultivation. Wherever we reside, transforming communities is a divine mission. The idea of a new covenant, a new way of being, that calls us to die in order to live may sound too “spiritual” and esoteric to have any relevance in the “real” world, but it is, in fact, exactly what we need as we face the major crises of our generation. We need to die to the economic systems built on unlimited greed and consumption, in order to find a new way to live and use our wealth to build a more sustainable society. We need to die to short-sighted, expedient exploitation of the world’s natural resources for our own gain, in order to make a new covenant with the earth, and find a way to live on our planet with responsibility and restraint. We need to die to our false sense of disconnection with others, and die to our aggressive, protectionist tribalism in order to build a new connected, respectful and equitable world. We need to die to our lack of compassion for the poor, the sick and the oppressed in order to work more intentionally and consistently for justice for all. From Lectionary Resources by Sacredise.com What might you need to diet today so that you, and our world, can live more fully and justly? https://lnkd.in/eC7FPU94 #DyingToLive #LectionaryResources #Lent5B

✨EVERY CHILD MATTERS ✨ As a member of the Canadian society built upon the colonization and marginalization of Indigenous peoples, I recognize my personal responsibility to listen, learn, and actively work towards truth and reconciliation. It is crucial that we acknowledge the ongoing impact of colonization on Indigenous communities and use our privilege and power to not only bring awareness, but actively challenge and dismantle systems, language and mindsets that allow for further oppression of the Indigenous Peoples and their communities. We must educate ourselves on the history of colonization, the trauma inflicted upon Indigenous peoples, and the continued systemic and institutional barriers they face. We must not also rely on those who continue to experience oppression to be the ones to guide us in the right direction- THAT IS FOR US TO DO. It is not enough to simply be aware of these injustices; we must actively work towards dismantling the systems and structures that perpetuate them. Today and every other day, I stand in solidarity with my Indigneous Brothers and Sisters. #TruthAndReconciliation #ListenAndLearn #AcknowledgeImpact #BringAwareness #EducateForChange #DismantleColonialSystems #StandWithIndigenous #AmplifyVoices #AdvocateForRights #SupportSelfDetermination #ChallengeColonialNarratives #CreateInclusiveSociety #JusticeForIndigenous #SolidarityForChange #UpliftMarginalizedVoices #CollectiveEffortForEquity #FutureRootedInJustice

"Together, Canadians must do more than just talk about reconciliation; we must learn how to practise reconciliation in our everyday lives—within ourselves and our families, and in our communities, governments, places of worship, schools, and workplaces." I align with above extract from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Volume One: Summary: Honouring the Truth, Reconciling for the Future.

Humans have told stories for as long as we can remember. These stories are used to share news, amplify heroes' accomplishments, pass on cultural traditions, and transfer knowledge and history. Libraries have been central in collecting, preserving and sharing these stories. Did you know that the first library in South Africa dates back to 20 March 1818? How important are libraries in your life? Let us know in the comments #Library #libraryweek #southafrica #nationallibrary

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities to honor the survivors of residential schools and reflect on the lasting impacts of colonization. On September 30th, The Varanda Network pauses our business activities to listen, learn, and commit to helping foster greater understanding and respect. But reconciliation isn’t just a one-day effort, it's a journey. My company is dedicated to supporting Indigenous voices and uplifting communities through meaningful partnerships and actions year-round. Tomorrow we resume our efforts 🧡 Let’s continue to build a future rooted in respect, equity, and shared truth. #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousRights #SupportReconciliation
