HouseProud is excited to share an update on our recent activities during Pride and beyond. We are the LGBTQIA+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Network (DEICN) for Houseful, and in the second week of Pride month, we focused our activities on #BeingTheChange and demonstrating how we can embody the positive transformation we wish to see. Last week, we released a HousefulShort video to our entire organisation, highlighting our initiatives as a network, centred around our four pillars: 1️⃣ Inclusive Leadership We aim to engage senior leaders and managers in fostering an LGBTQ-inclusive culture. 2️⃣ Equitable Policies and Benefits We are reviewing all our policies and benefits to ensure they are inclusive and equitable for LGBTQIA+ employees, ensuring they feel represented and supported in the workplace. 3️⃣ Engagement and Support Across the Employee Lifecycle We are examining how we engage and support LGBTQIA+ employees at each key touchpoint throughout their career journey, from attraction and recruitment to exit. 4️⃣ Improving Our Data We are enhancing our LGBTQIA+ data collection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting to better understand representation and prioritise initiatives based on data. In addition, HouseProud members came together to share personal stories, aiming to raise awareness, advocate for colleagues, and educate the broader organisation. We discussed our everyday experiences as LGBTQIA+ individuals in the UK and provided resources for further reading on the community's current challenges. This week, our focus is on #BuildingTogether, creating connections, and celebrating the ties that unite us. Stay tuned for next week’s update on our continued efforts!

🌟 Celebrating Neurodiversity: Embracing Differences, Driving Innovation 🌟 Amidst Neurodiversity Celebration Week, I'm inspired by the incredible advocacy and support flooding LinkedIn to celebrate Neurodiversity. Neurodiversity describes the cognitive differences within people's brains and the way they process information. The more commonly known differences are ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. Neurodiversity has always been close to my heart. In the companies I've worked with, I've championed understanding and inclusion around this. With 15%-20% of the population being neurodiverse of all genders, races and sexuality, it's essential to integrate this aspect into our broader Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and wider People agenda. Why should understanding this matter to you? 🙌 It's about championing difference, creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued. 💡 It's about tapping into diverse perspectives to drive innovation. Embracing different ways of thinking leads to new solutions. 🤝 It's about supporting neurodiverse individuals to bring out their best potential in the workplace. During the rest of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, there are events run by Lexxic to deepen your understanding. For HR colleagues there is a session dedicated to understanding neurodiversity for HR professionals today Can't attend live? Sign up anyways as many of the events are recorded. Take the time to engage—it makes a difference. Let's continue these enlightening discussions. Together, we can create a more inclusive future!

Workplace consultant with 25+ years of experience in using technology to turn offices into dynamic, efficient, and happy workplaces
Nearly 1 in 3 LGBTQI+ employees have left a job due to feeling uncomfortable. This figure alone is disheartening, but it gets worse: - Over a third say workplace discrimination has worsened in the last 5 years - 41% report facing discrimination like being left out of meetings or denied promotions - Around a third feel less motivated/productive if they can't be their full selves at work Authentic allyship from leadership, inclusive policies, and empowering employee resource groups are key to retaining talent and making your employees feel safe to do their best in the workplace. Plus, numerous studies show that a diverse, inclusive workforce unlocks better decision-making, innovation, and performance. Inclusion needs to be more than a buzzword during Pride month. It is imperative all year long to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment. 🏳️🌈 https://buff.ly/3VzmuKd

Where should you invest your time – in recruitment or retention? For me, retention needs to be prioritised. Hiring someone is often a gamble. But are the internal policies and processes set up to recognise all the talented people in your company? And if not, why should someone stay somewhere that doesn’t protect and accommodate them? Harvard Business Review explored this in a recent article, emphasising the need to evolve engagement practices to retain top talent. This is something I have seen, and I’m sure you have too, where basic practices like employee surveys are non-existent - let alone having employee training to ensure an inclusive workplace. It’s time to evolve, don’t you agree?
