Oxford University Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) experienced a large increase in visitors in 2023, according to figures released during English Tourism Week today by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), welcoming over 3.2 million visitors in 2023 compared to 2.7 million visitors in 2022. This is a 20% increase from the previous year and just above the average increase of 19% across all ALVA attractions, with three GLAM sites appearing in ALVA’s list of the UK’s top 50 attractions of 2023! The morning programme Good Morning America, the most watched morning show in America, was broadcast from Portugal on June 20, featuring all the Portuguese gems, from the Algarve to Porto. 🌴 The programme described Portugal as “one of the most affordable places to visit in Europe” and highlighted that “more than 2 million Americans take advantage of that fact every year”. In her introduction of the programme, show host Robin Roberts stated that there were “so many things to see and do here”, with over 2 million Americans visiting Portugal in 2023 alone. The World’s top 10 most visited countries based on UN tourism data have just been revealed with France topping the list with 77.5 million travellers per year, closely followed by Spain with 71.7 million travellers. The United States, Turkey, Italy, and Mexico follow, with the United Kingdom coming 7th place with 29.5 million visitors. https://buff.ly/49l6XDo Looking ahead to this year and new research by BDRC BVA presented at our recent annual review showed Spain is top of their list of destinations for trips planned from the UK in the next 12 months followed by France, Greece, Italy, and the USA.
