🚨🚨🚨For all of my Virginia #fireservice #ems #lawenforcment folks in the audience - If you aren’t aware of this happening in our State, it indeed is.🚨🚨🚨 Where we stand currently - The general assembly approved and the Governor signed HB368 and the companion SB195. These bills directed the Board of Housing and Community Development (BHCD) to convene an Advisory Committee to provide recommendations for allowing a single stair exit for group R-2 (multi-family) structures up to six stories in height. The committees findings and recommendations are due back to the General Assembly by December 1, 2024. Additionally, a code change proposal was submitted for the 2021 code cycle for up to five stories. That proposal was not approved by the Board. The legislatively ordered Advisory Committee met for the first time this week in #richmond Collectively, we had very open and frank discussions about the obvious concerns not only from the fire service, but also those from our EMS and Law Enforcement partners. We also begun to sort through a working list of recomendations on how to make this as safe as possible for our citizens. What can you do? These meetings are posted/open to the public for in-person comment. You can find the agenda and upcoming meeting dates https://lnkd.in/eNuCxUdJ I highly encourage you to attend in-person to have your recommendations heard. You can choose to represent yourself as a citizen or represent your special interest group/agency (highly recommend seeking pre-approval for the later). ***Please reach out to me directly with any concerns or recommendations that you or your Department have.*** Feel free to share this post to anyone in your #virginia network.
